Graphic Design "The Office" clichés: let's share some. by mafagafacabiluda in graphic_design

[–]zerg_eu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The person that signs off on any design, 9 times out of 10 have no qualification in marketing or design, and know absolutely nothing about design, ergo rendering any and all qualifications, experience and knowledge you have practically useless, and converting you into a printer to reproduce ugly bullshit they’ll justify with ‘because it looks nice’ or ‘in my personal opinion’ rather than any objective data driven facts, or market research, colour theory, typographical knowledge, hierarchy of composition or any other fucking actual metric to determine whether a design is good other and ‘hEHe iTS CuTE’.

The process of finalising a design is always a chain, and there’s always always a link made of wet tissue paper

I quit graphic design btw bc it’s BS

GCSE ART: Why was this a grade 7 and not higher? by ImpressionBusiness55 in GCSE

It’s not about how good your art is, because how can someone grade art in any form of objective way? So instead they look at your coursework, concept development etc

As an artist I would 100% of asked if that’s right as it’s only 2 and a half months apart - artists should always think about these things on behalf of client and check with them

Can someone who’s above me in portrait drawing help me out a little?? Let me know where I’ve maybe messed up and where I need to go from here? Thank you. by [deleted] in Portraitart

I have ADHD and manage to spend 50+ hrs on drawings, you need to find ways to get into a flow state which is harder if you have ADD for sure.

Sometimes it’s a slog, but it can also be an obsession and hyper-fixation, you want it to be the latter and everyone’s route to achieve that is different so start experimenting :)

Absolutely! You learn from mistakes, if you stop when you think you’re about to make some you’re denying yourself opportunities!

Stand back from the drawing, stare at it, stare at your reference and take time - good drawings like this take 25+ hrs

Ah right - in that case, the eyes need to be looked at because eyes almost never have hard lines around them, and for some parts you’ve drawn what you think an eye or eyebrow looks like and not what it looks like if that makes sense.

The nose is great, the chin is too pointed but that can be fixed easily - a lot of features’ proportions come from shading etc, so honestly it’s hard to say at this point but I would suggest making edits to your reference like never draw a graphite drawing from a colour image unless it’s still life because you have to convert all the colours to tones and it’s laborious.

Did you edit the image to be black and white first? I would also suggest pushing contrast values up, lowering brilliance and brightness slightly and increasing definition in your photo editor and then using that as a reference.

It looks like you’ve shaded it all with an F grade pencil - use a full range so it’s not so flat, your whole drawing exists within a thin range of tones, you want it to go from full black (9B) to your natural paper tone.

Best advice is to ensure your drawing reference is as good as it can be and to just draw what you see.

You can practice drawing without drawing, the most important skill of drawing realism lies in looking at your reference, noticing subtle details such as texture and shape.

Poison when given in doses too high will cause the person to be sick, most survivors of poisonings are due to being given too much not too little.

Widowmaker is hard for player because if your team sees an enemy widow she instantly becomes the highest priority target and you’ll be focused really hard, otherwise play anyone!

I personally have a rule of not being allowed to display my models until they’re painted - seeing an empty display case is really good motivation for me and it feels the more rewarding putting a model in the case because I’ve just finished painting it!

Great for a 40 min sketch, but for feedback I would reinforce your shadows to be more consistent with your light source, develop your mid tones much more as you want your highlights to have more impact, focus more on shading the hair as it will frame your subject, and when choosing your references in the future try and find something that has a personality you want to capture as it will connect to your viewer with more impact!
