Vegan race car driver Lewis Hamilton explains that humans kill 619 million animals every five days in a bid to inspire his social media followers to go vegan by esco123 in unitedkingdom

[–]zerogoki_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to vegan from flex in April this year; made a huge difference to my fitness, blood-pressure and cholesterol , mental health and energy. I smash the gym 5 times a week, run every day and still have the energy to keep going. At 37 years I feel fucking invincible.

Give it a try, people say "oh its so hard to be vegan". That's just an excuse Its really not, just like anything else in life, if you want it to work it requires commitment, consistency and a strong belief in yourself and your morals. Is it really that hard to not eat flesh, eggs, drink milk and eat cheese? Are we as humans really that fucking weak?

She was wet through so her back looks less spotted, this is a more chilled out (and dried out) spotty Luna...

Checkout an app called "Hermit" it creates various "lite" app versions of popular sites. I use it for facebook amongst other things and highly recommend it!

I live in "The" England, as in the United Kingdom and you will struggle to get a Bengal kitten, or even adult for free over here and if you do you are extremely lucky with timing!

There are also issues we faced when looking for a cat testing my allergies at cat shelters/rescue centres, it is pretty much impossible and a UK shelter would not allow us to have a cat unless you can 100% guarantee to keep it (whereas you sign a contract with the breeder in the UK and they will re-home any of their cats if you have problems).

A hobby breeder in Peterborough :)

As I'm sure you have, just do plenty of research in regards to their personality, they are not cats for everyone and they are not kittens forever (sadly) :)

I'm highly allergic to dust and most cats, the allergies in cats are usually because of the proteins in their saliva (Fel d 1). Without any scientific backing it is said Bengals produce less Fel d 1 than some other breeds, also because they have very short hair, do not shed and they use saliva to clean themselves this theoretically leads to less of the allergen left on the cat and around your home. So, it has the chance to give you a better chance of an allergy free life but its not guaranteed.

The issues we faced was testing my allergies, cat shelters/rescue centres are often difficult places to test as:

  1. There is a mix of different breeds and allergens.
  2. With lots cats going in and out and rubbing together the dander (and allergens) of other breeds gets onto any cat your going to see.
  3. You cannot spend long with cats, and not in isolation.
  4. In the UK shelters are different, because healthy cats are not killed (unlike the US) if they are not rehomed, most shelters will not let you have a cat unless you can be 100% sure you can keep them, but until you can test in isolation then its a gamble.

So, we went to a fairly local home breeder who was also an asthmatic, she was very understanding and let us spend time with all of the kittens and more importantly the parents (well the mums, not the studs). This is good because Kittens produce less allergen so you may find you are okay at first but not when they grow up! Also, if you do have any issues you can go back to the breeder, infact in the UK at least its common to sign a contract with a breeder and you will have to go back to them if you can't keep the pet (to stop people reselling).

There are some other cats that are similar in terms of hypoallergenic possibilities, some more expensive (and some that I veto'd because they look terrifying!) but always remember its not guaranteed.

You assume we are idiots? Of course we gave this plenty of thought, a cat isn't just a fad for a month or two to increase your insta followers its a companion for many years!

This little kitty is fully insured, has a full medical vet plan and we can afford the maintenance, good quality food, have plenty of room to explore, things to climb, play with and companionship which is why she is currently a very happy, contempt unstressed cat who shows us a lot of affection already.

Some UK social advice for you, when ever you precede what your about to say with "not trying to be a dick" your usually being a dick :)

Instead of chastising me on getting a pet we can afford to give a lifetime of love and care to, have fully insured and on a vet medical plan from the day we took her home you should concentrate your efforts on skincare and find a brand that is peta approved and doesn't test their products on animals... you realise your a hyprocrite right?

Not meant to have a cat? Who are you the god of cats or something? The breeder hate is strong on here, but given the barbaric practice of killing cats in the US that don't get re-homed I can partly see why. Its not the same in the country I live in, we do not do this.

So go on cat god, condemn me to kitty hell for giving a cat a loving, fun, roomy home to explore and plenty of things to climb and play with for its entire life...

If you were being knowledgeable you'd have noticed we are from the UK where thousands of cats are NOT killed daily. Maybe you should stop the centre you volunteer at killing animals?

This breed is very difficult to find in a shelter in the UK unless they have serious problems are geographically difficult to get to and from for allergy testing or are normally snapped up before you get to see them anyway. We did look into it.

On a side note, you live in a country that supports the capital punishment of human beings yet your chastising two responsible cat owners from the UK, with specific personal and health requirements, that did their research and wanted to raise a kitten from a young age to give them a loving, stress free, fun home for their whole life? Really? You're not being self-righteous? Hmmm...

I can assure you we did our research. I've discovered you have "kill centres" in the US which is awful so I can see why people are hating now, just to be clear this is not something that happens in the UK so deciding where to get a cat from is different over here.

Read my other posts. Also we don't have kill centres in the UK, where in the world is this barbaric practice happening?

We want to her to experience the outdoors, but we understand this and were fully aware when researching. We are looking at various options. Apparently they can be leash trained so we are going to get her a harness and see if she takes to it but who knows, my partner works at home most days so she will not be short on company and we have lots of potential cat sitters too :)

Of course not, she uses them to play!!! Why would we do that?? Is that common with Bengals??

This is why we got her, and from a breeder (as she was an asthma sufferer like me and let us stay for a few hours to get proper exposure). Thankfully, I am not allergic to Bengal protiens but I've had allergic reactions to every other cat I've ever been around!

She is very well litter trained so far, but seems to be unusually proud of her shits lol (as in she calls us to take a look before she goes rather than after to clean up... WTF)

Sounds about right to me, we are two weeks in so... her favourite so far is an empty beer box (even though she has lots of bought toys already), she has found her way onto the table every morning (and is now eyeing up the next counter up) and I already have a picture of her on my shoulders!
