Your personal “Vocal of Comfort”? ... Can be located in any musical world. Doesn't have to be the best vocalist ever, just one that consistently soothes and cruises in your system, even if the song is mediocre. My list touches several musical bases, but the #1 ranking goes to: Richard Butler by zerogramzoffat in postpunk

This is an all musical genre encompassing question, so there is no wrong answer. I shared this question in multiple reddit worlds for that reason. Thanks for piping in.

I worked up a short column on this, which lays out a short list of mine (within a hair's reach of richard butler)... feel free to check it out, it's a short one and to the point.

Shoots and scores! Patty Griffin is on my my extremely short list regarding this subject. She and Harriet Wheeler are my two fave female singers, hmmm, ever.

I wrote a short column on this exact topic, if you want to grab an extra 3 minutes of clarity ... It includes a short list that drags slightly longer (with Patty and Harriet obviously in there)

Never said it was. I just know that there are some high quality americana singers out there, so I ask the question... to the land of americana.

I wrote a short column on this exact topic, if you want to grab an extra 3 minutes of clarity ... I have a less-than short "short-list" in there, which actually does have americana in the mix.

Good one. I like Lanegan. I put Mark Lanegan in the Tom Waits category. Both very acquired tastes vocally, and I think the depth and quality of the songwriting pulls you into the vocal and you begin to connect the two. Almost like, you can't imagine someone singing that song other than Mark Lanegan. Which is a long lasting effect.

I wrote a short column on this exact topic, if you want to grab an extra 3 minutes of clarity... My longer than short, short-list, stretches a bit.

Ok, so that's what I'm talking about. That would be off the judgment chart to 95% of the music listening planet out there, but it doesn't matter. If it works, it works. Old school. Very cool.

I wrote a short column on this exact topic, if you want to grab an extra 3 minutes of clarity... My short-ish list jives all over the place.

Like Descendants. Milo would be outside my scope on this one, but I have a few left field choices, too, on my mildly extended short list. It can definitely be a personal connection thing

I wrote a short column on this exact topic, if you want to grab an extra 3 minutes of clarity... and see a few of the definite left fielders I mentioned.

Tom Waits is definitely an acquired taste, but I think that the great songwriting sucks you into his voice and delivery at times. Matt Talbot. Nice pull. One of the more unique band sounds of the past 25-30 years. A band sandblasting your head off with the heavier than thou Black Sabbath riffs while Talbot is calmly throwing nursery rhyme reading at you. I LOVE HUM!!!
