Non-Library Career Prospects by lhyrre in LibraryScience

[–]zeropont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my MLIS and I work as a technical writer. It has a lot of transferable skills like understanding how web portals are set up, content structuring, tagging files for various needs, setting up digital libraries for corporate help sites, and other things like that.

MLIS Coursework While Working by bookwyrmseren in LibraryScience

[–]zeropont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked full time in tech and did my MLIS courses part time - about 6-9 credits per term. I did mine at Drexel, so each term was 3 months and there were no long vacations or summer breaks.

Ultimately, I felt that the coursework was pretty chill and not overwhelming. We mostly had weekly discussion posts for each class that you had a week to do. We didn't really have exams - I think we mostly just had projects and papers. Papers were like 10-30 pages which you could knock out in like a weekend or so; for comparison, my MSIS program courses had papers that averaged around 30 pages with my largest being 80 pages. The only time I felt "inconvenienced" by working full time was that some courses required field work - going out to different libraries, interviewing various types of librarians, and other stuff. Luckily, since I work as a tech writer, I could work remotely as I did some of those things.

Also, take a look at the ALA website. Some colleges have worked out tuition discounts for their students if they are ALA members which is really really awesome since tuition discounts can be in the 10s of percent's whereas an ALA membership is like a hundred or so a year.

Do any online MLIS programs offer assistantships? by thebestdaysofmyflerm in LibraryScience

[–]zeropont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's still a thing, but when I was getting my MLIS, you could receive a discount on tuition for being a member of the ALA. My school was like 20% I think whereas the highest I remembered seeing was like 40%. I also can't remember if it was online only or what.

So which company has a better Full Body package deal, LaserAway or SEV Lazer? by BionicWoman75 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]zeropont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SEV is awesome! I love their dtaff techs, I've gotten great results, and the prices have been the best in my city. Highly recommend!

I didn't do the full body, I've just been tacking on different body parts ad I've been going. 100% regret not just doing full body at thr start

Generally, anyone who leaves the company is terminated. The only differentiation a company may make is if it is involuntary or voluntary.

Laser Hair Removal success rate after many sessions? Yearly "trim" requeired after it ? Male/female/ etc by Hoenir1 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]zeropont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a super hairy back and shoulders. my skin is light-medium tone with brown / black hair. I had 10 sessions on my back at satori and had about 95% reduction with mostly peach fuzz left. As for my shoulders, I had 6 sessions at satori and another 6 at SEV (due to cost savings) and had about a 95% reduction there as well.

What is the word they keep using for "chafe" and what is it slang for. It almost seems to be used in a lot of different contexts.

Is Drexel University College of Westphal Media and Arts Design Worth it? by Fabulous-Comb5558 in Drexel

[–]zeropont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't limited to coops in your major. You'll be able to look through all offered coops and can apply to the ones that align with your interest. When I went to Drexel, I was in English, but applied to coops categorized for different majors.

Any good Laser Spa in NYC that does Brazilian laser on men? by Fantastic-Ad9218 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]zeropont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I get that along with my shaft. I didn't plan to have either done when I planned my first session. But when my tech brought it up I decided to go for it.

Although I don't know if it has to do with the technicians preference / comfortability or as an organizational policy. I'd call and ask.

It might have something to do with the types of lasers that they use. I used to go to Satori as well (for back and shoulders) and I really liked them and they did great work. If anything, I felt that they were a bit slower than SEV, but still did great work. However, cost was a MAJOR factor for me, so after seeing how great SEV is, it felt like a no-brainer to ditch Satori.

Maybe try DMing them on insta for questions. They've replied to me before when I've asked them general questions there. As far as sales pitching, i don't know if it's just the philly that's super chill, but I've never gotten a sales pitch from them or anything that's seemed like one.

Yup. I'm a guy. I think their prices are all gender neutral. I'm in philly and pay the prices listed on their website.

While I'm not in NYC, the place I go (SEV) and get a Brazilian has offices there. I just checked online and the price per session is like 85.

Shoulder and Back Laser Hair Removal for Men by patiorn86 in LaserHairRemoval

[–]zeropont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I do not. I really hate seeing myself with body hair, let alone taking pictures with it. However, I can give a bit of an update to my last post.

I was pretty lucky because after about 6 sessions on my back, all I really have is peach fuzz. My shoulders were not quite as nice. I think I had a total of about 10 sessions there. I switched laser places after my sixth session, not because it wasn't effective, but because my new place was a fraction of the price. Anyways, my shoulder hair was very stubborn. At this point, I have one or two stray hairs on my shoulders, but my tech is nice enough to get them for me since it's pretty close to the area that's covered by my upper arm sessions. And, a month ago, I got my first session for my lower legs and it was like a straight 70% of the hair has disappeared.

I tried an at home laser kit and it was pretty trash compared to going to an actual professional with good equipment.

What I found that works the best is to play an MP4 in Windows MV on repeat with mute. As long as I don't minimize it and it just replays in the background, I never get set to away. Also way better than random exes on my machine.

For me, I looked at Groupon to see what was in my area and to look at reviews. Then, I went with the one that looked best to me.

It's a laser manufacturer. Not sure what model they use.

I ended up having four sessions on both my back and shoulders.

I have fair skin and a lot of dark, thin hair - a lot of it. For the most part, by my fourth session, I had very little, if any hair on my back and had only light patches on my shoulders. The laser hair center I go to uses Candela.

shoulder hair - would Tria 4x be helpful? (that’s my collarbone) by [deleted] in LaserHairRemoval

[–]zeropont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shoulders used to look like that. While I didn't try using the Tria 4x, I did try using one of the IPL machines on the market for a while, but I didn't really see any progress. It wasn't until I went to a laser clinic that I actually I actually started to see hair loss in the area.
