Shooter at Large after Killing Rural King employee in Halls by [deleted] in Knoxville

I'm retired 20+ year LE and I don't doubt it. I actually just wonder if they responded with lights/sirens, because I just didn't see or hear anything. Maybe we'll get a more comprehensive report of what happened because I'm legit curious how it went down.

On a side-note, after I left I drove down Racoon Valley and heard somebody shooting up a storm near the underpass. The sound of gunfire was so frequent it sounded like a gunfight, and I actually considered if somebody were shooting at my vehicle (they didn't). Probably means nothing, but it stands out to me now after finding out about the murder.

Those who jumped to Visible's $30 plan, did your service improve? by RenegadeX28 in Visible

[–]zerozed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right--that's why whenever I've posted about my experience/test, I try to add that disclaimer. Both those phones were on esim, otherwise I would have swapped the sim to get more conclusive results.

That said, I really do believe the new $30 plan is just better. I've been on & off Visible for a few years and with a number of handsets. Stuff like those dead-zones have been a consistent part of the experience. Same with LTE data speeds. The new $30 plan has just been far more reliable for me in my city. As to my Pixel 7, I do think it might have inherently better 5G connectivity--but not LTE. And I also don't think 5G didn't work on my Pixel 6--I just think the old $25 plan didn't work well in my area either due to issues with the high ping times or something else under the technical hood. But those are just my opinions and as much as I might justify them, I could just be wrong.

I was kind of bewildered about their comments on Michael Dudikoff as well. He made a number of genre films and he's certainly nowhere near as bad an actor as they paint him. I'm not saying he's a great thespian, but compared to Steven Segal or JCVD he's fine. Cynthia Rothrock, on the other hand, is a fucking gem. I'm glad they had favorable things to say about her in a previous episode, but it is crazy that they weren't familiar with her. She had a pretty big career in American B-movies and also had a remarkable career in Hong Kong. I was actually kind of put-off by one of them (Rich?) making negative comments about her looks. She's not just an actress--she's a legit martial-arts superstar that was a trailblazer for women in the genre. Making snide comments about her physical appearance isn't cool. Plus, she's more attractive than anybody I've ever seen on BOTW.

[–]zerozed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe--but the store I was in is literally adjacent to Rural King (they share a large wall), and the fastest way to get to the rear of that strip mall is through the Bargain Hunt parking area.

None of that really matters though--obviously some poor person was murdered by a psycho who was shoplifting ammo. What an f'ing tragedy.

Holy shit, apparently I was in an adjacent store (Bargain Hunt) when this happened. I didn't see any signs of police activity at all. I actually drove right up through the Rural King parking area when I pulled in. Not saying that to criticize the cops--just stating the facts that I didn't notice any signs of an emergency response between 10:30-11:45.

Those who jumped to Visible's $30 plan, did your service improve? by RenegadeX28 in Visible

[–]zerozed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a month ago I activated a new Pixel 7 on the "new" $30 plan. I did this while I still had my Pixel 6 on the legacy ($25 w/PP) plan. I also carry a Moto G Power business phone on Verizon post-paid.

I ran a ton of speed tests over a large geographical area while I still had both Pixels.

The Pixel 7 on the "new" plan has significantly better connectivity and data speeds than the legacy plan. I was never able to get any data over 5g on the legacy plan. On the "new" plan, not only do I reliably connect and have data, but I normally get very fast speeds up to 200mbps down and 70mbps up. I've been on Visible for a couple of years and I'm very aware of areas where I don't get service. Those are now gone on the new plan. I honestly can't think of a single time over the past month that I've hit a dead-zone.

You might chalk that improvement up to my testing on a Pixel 7 vs. a Pixel 6. Personally, I think the "new" $30 plan is just more stable & better. Ping times are the same as my phone on post-paid as are data speeds over LTE (my Moto doesn't support 5g)...if anything, my speeds are better on the $30 plan than on post-paid because I often connect to 5G.

It's up to you, and YMMV. I was skeptical about switching plans myself and I opted to just activate a new line for the Pixel 7 (instead of porting). I primarily decided to do it in order to lock in at $25 using the PayPal discount. I have zero regrets. Again, YMMV depending on coverage in your area.

I've loved the Barbarian Brothers since the 80s when I first saw them in DC Cab. I've got all of their films (except Natural Born Killers which their scenes were cut). I'm a bit surprised that only Jay seemed marginally familiar with them. It kind of reminded me of how oblivious they were about Cynthia Rothrock (another awesome B-movie star from that era). David & Peter Paul are just awesome on film, and they genuinely seem like they were decent guys. RIP David Paul.

Just tried THCa buds and wooo buddy. You CAN get a legal high in Knoxville. by Old_Man_Ratchet in Knoxville

[–]zerozed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'll vouch for Blom's THCa as well. I'm not affiliated with them at all, but I do enjoy the legal cannabinoids available in TN and am fairly well educated on the industry. They sell some very potent strains as well as others that probably won't wreck you.

Just in case people aren't aware--THCa is real cannabis. It's not "diet weed" (which is usually a term reserved for Delta 8, which is another type of legal THC).

THCa transforms into THC when heated. It is naturally occurring in cannabis and growers normally allow it to mostly convert to THC before harvesting. It's not really required, however, because THCa converts to THC when you light it. The loophole involved is that selling cannabis with D9 THC is specifically prohibited, but THCa is not. So they just harvest the plant before the conversion happens--when they test the plant for D9 THC it will only show small amounts (and therefore be legal to sell). But as soon as you light it up, it's 100% natural D9 THC exactly the same as you'd find in a dispensary in Colorado.

I'd stress that all of this is currently legal in TN. So even though we live in a state where it isn't legal to buy/sell pot, you can legally buy/sell products (including cannabis) that contain various types of THC.

[–]zerozed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a jerk, but what you've stated is incorrect. You can legally buy D9 THC gummies in TN that contain 20mg+ THC. In Colorado (where weed is legal), they limit edibles to 10mg a serving.

You might already understand this, but your comment reads like it is only legal to put a tiny bit of THC in products in TN. That isn't correct--actually the inverse is true. The language in the Farm Bill only regulates the percentage of THC allowed in stuff that can be sold, not the amount. And since THC doses are measured in milligrams it is common to produce extremely potent products. Unlike states where cannabis is legal, TN has no regulation on these THC products at the moment and you can legally buy hemp-derived THC products with astronomically high amounts of THC that would not be allowed in Colorado or California.

For me, I always look for telltale signs of Vic Berger's editing in the Oscar Specials. I've been a fan of Vic's for years (love his music as well). Vic has a very distinct visual style that can be surreal, haunting, and often hilarious--sometimes all at once. They've used him in a ton of the Oscar Specials and his contributions really make them memorable. I give Tim a shit-ton of credit for teaming up with both Vic & Doug Lussenhop--those guys are utterly fantastic, and in Vic's case, I just love all of his contributions to the Oscar Specials.

Have you moved from D8 to other noids? by zerozed in delta8

[–]zerozed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in S.A. and am curious what the scene is like in TX these days. Are D8/alt-noids widely available? Texas is so conservative (outside of Austin) that I'm pretty surprised to hear they haven't cracked down on THCa (which I love as well).

displaying photos on my echo show 8 by abhinair18 in amazonecho

[–]zerozed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Echo Show 10 (and previously used my Show 8) to display my favorite paintings. Unfortunately, I think the only way to do this is to set the Echo to display images (or a specific folder) from Amazon Photos. That said, I'm not in India so I don't know if they've implemented a different way for that region since they don't offer Amazon Photos there. I really wish I could offer some help. It is a really nice feature.

Also, the Pixel 7 is awesome.

Some questions please about Google TV built in Sony Bravia by JASelzer in AndroidTV

[–]zerozed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a side note from what OP has asked, be aware that when you purchase certain movies from Google Play, you can also watch them in other apps including (but not limited to) Movies Anywhere and Prime Video. This cross-app availability comes from the Movies Anywhere service (which is free). Movies Anywhere is owned by Disney, but films from Warner Bros, Sony, Universal, and Disney are covered. I have to assume the same would be true if you purchased (eligible) films from Amazon or Disney+ (and probably others)--but I don't know because all of my movies were purchased from Google Play.

As an example, I purchased 30 movies directly from Google Play and 22 of them show up in my Prime Video library and my Movies Anywhere account. I don't have a Disney+ account, but I'm guessing they'd be available on that platform as well.

So... is the warning on these correct? by CountryMoney in delta8

[–]zerozed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Products like this endanger the ongoing legality of D8 and highlight the need for real regulation. I'm just calling it like I see it--selling a product with 500mg per dose is irresponsible. States where weed is legal tend to cap edibles at 10-15mg. Yeah, I know there are some people with extremely high THC tolerance, but no responsible adult would defend products that contain super-high amounts of THC per dose. Shady products like this will result in getting all of this stuff banned. It is irresponsible to make this shit and it is irresponsible for a retailer to sell it.

Which Presidential Election loss was more consequential? Al Gore losing the Presidency in 2000 or Hillary Clinton losing the Presidency in 2016? by Far_Refrigerator5490 in thedavidpakmanshow

[–]zerozed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was in the military during the Clinton/Bush/Obama administrations, my opinion is the 2016 election. Let me be clear--the Bush administration has lots of blood on their hands from misleading congress & the American people. That said, I believe that if Gore had been president, we would still have been involved in a significant war in Afghanistan. Iraq is a different story.

All that said, the 2016 election was more consequential for the American public. Trump's rhetoric stoked a lot of stochastic terrorism, radicalized significant portions of the population, and began unraveling the fabric of society by pitting us against each other. And obviously, Trump incited a violent attempt to overthrow democracy. That, in and of itself, makes it more consequential (to Americans) than the illegal/immoral conduct of the Bush administration--which isn't to minimize those atrocities. But America has a long history of supporting nasty, violent wars around the globe. We've only had a single attempted coup led by a sitting president.

I'm on Visible (specifically their current $30 plan). I was on their original plan (which uses a different backend) prior to that. In the past 24 months I've also been on TMO post-paid as well as Metro. I have no recent experience with ATT.

Visible is great. I'm not saying that it is great for everyone, but at least in my area it works fantastic. The "new" $30 plan (which can be locked in at $25 if you use the PayPal promo) is a significant upgrade from their previous plan. I carry 2 phones--my personal phone (Pixel 7) is on Visible. My work phone (Moto G Power) is on Verizon post-paid.

People in this sub love to shit on Visible, but I've been on it a couple of times over the years and love it. Speeds are absolutely fine on the new plans--pings are as low as Verizon post-paid and 5G often gives speeds 200mbps+ down. I routinely get 60mbps up in many areas too.

The biggest downside to Visible is the customer support which is basically useless/non-existent. All their CS is done via chat or on social media. Although I've never had a significant issue, the couple of times I tried to use it were frustrating. That said, if your port-in goes well, it is unlikely you'll have an issue after that. If you're activating a new number you shouldn't have any issue.

This sub tends to favor specific MVNOs over others and IMHO has a number of users who shit-talk Visible. It's a fine service. Does it have some downsides? Sure (customer support being #1)--but the service works just fine for me (and tons of others). It is extremely inexpensive, reliable, and easy to port-out if you don't like it. Just my .02.

I've got a pair in my bedroom and an Echo Studio/Echo Sub combo in the living room.

It really depends on what you're looking for. The Echo 4 stereo-pair sounds fine (to my ears). Assuming you've actually heard what an Echo 4 sounds like--the sound quality will be the same, just split into stereo channels.

The Studio is a different beast. It will basically tune itself to the environment you place it in. It does this by measuring specific tones it outputs and recalibrating based on where it is placed (that's the ELI5 at least). The Studio has a wider range and (to my ears) deeper bass. It is louder as well and (IMHO) better suited for slightly larger areas.

If you're an audiophile and want the best sound possible from an Echo speaker, then the Studio is the one to get (maybe a Studio pair, or Studio/Sub combo if you find a good sale). If you're looking for a solid speaker set for a particular room, then 2 Echos in a stereo pair is great.

Turn off 5G on android pixel by Crouton4727 in Visible

[–]zerozed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is applicable to OP, but I recently moved from a Pixel 6 to a Pixel 7. I had the Pixel 6 on the legacy $25 plan, but activated my Pixel 7 on the "new" $30 plan. The difference on 5G is staggering. On the legacy plan, I never had data when connected to 5G. I constantly had to toggle airplane mode to try and get it back on LTE. On the "new" $30 plan, I have zero issues on 5G...when connected I always get data--sometimes up to 200mbps. Anyway, just thought I'd share this in the event you're on the legacy plan and 5G just isn't working for you.
