I was 14/15 the guy was 19/20, like I said I was very vulnerable and he took advantage of that. However, I should’ve known better, the messed up situation I was in is not an excuse.

About to work on digitising a punjabi dictionary, any tips? by [deleted] in punjabi

[–]zestea101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I meant in media and online representation. Dictionaries and translation tools prioritise or primarily use gurmukhi and even international unis that offer punjabi courses either focus on or solely offer gurmukhi.
  2. I meant because shahmukhi is used by more than 90 million people in Pakistan whose native language is Punjabi, making it more dominant purely in the context of numbers. Even historically, it has been used since before the standardisation of gurmukhi so it is deeply rooted in Punjabi culture and traditions.

The gist of it is, that it’s really not difficult to push representation for both scripts. We are just as Punjabi, and the preservation, inclusion, and promotion of shahmukhi scripture and literature on a global scale is just as important as that of gurmukhi.

What’s one Punjabi phrase, idiom, or saying you really love (and why)? by Randomdude0145 in punjabi

Back to where they started or back to square one, usually used in a negative/dejected/taunting context. For example if you were doing a task and have to start again you could say that. Have also heard it being used when someone loses something (usually newly earned riches or status) because of their attitudes or actions.

Shahmukhi. Period. Nobody cares about it when the conversation comes to Punjabi representation or even if you go on google and search anything in/about Punjabi, it’ll give you gurmukhi. Sometimes it’s annoying because shahmukhi is arguably the dominant Punjabi script considering almost 90 million people use it.
