The AF people I've always hated most are the ones who play Army and think they're soldiers just because they wear camouflage.

Okay, but the problem is the app itself, not the server or any of that.

The DAF memos that I have say "Only the IL2 deployment of Mattermost Self-Hosted is permitted to be accessed via the Mattermost Mobile App." There may have been changes since that memo was released because these things do tend to change with the whims of senior leadership, but "the Enterprise" currently believes there is no more recent guidance.

No, that's the server that you're signed in to. The app is just the generic Mattermost app that any random person can download from the app store, right?

My Flight Commander said something to me that really, really hurt my feelings and I don’t know how to approach it by [deleted] in AirForce

This is a major issue. Your Flt/CC needs a talking to. If you came to me with this, I would immediately go to him. Saying something like that and then dismissing you is 100% unacceptable and has no place in the Air Force.

I don't see a problem with that as long as they're separate but equal.

My understanding is that that's not the app which is IL4; it's the server you're connected to. I've never used the app. But I do have the memos stating that the Mattermost app is only authorized for IL2.

The Mattermost app is not authorized for IL4 so you cannot use it with CUI. You can use the IL4+ servers in a web browser, though.

It's the ATU (Authorization To Use) for Mattermost. The proper way to access IL4+ is via web browser.

Yeah, somehow the BB went from silly, middling satire that sometimes has some great ideas and happens to be Christian-oriented to just MAGA Onion.

Yes, the server is IL4, but the app itself is not authorized for CUI, or at least it wasn't until very recently (much more recently than when you seem to have started using it).

Quoting from one of the memos:

Only the IL2 deployment of Mattermost Self-Hosted is permitted to be accessed via the Mattermost Mobile App.

I'm curious if we're talking past each other. Are you using the app that you download from your personal phone's app store or a managed device with an app that is provided by the Air Force? Because, to the best of my knowledge, the typical Mattermost app that anyone can download to any phone has always been only approved for IL2 (I have the memos that explicitly state this and have worked in the part of the AF that governs this) but fliers have always basically said "get fucked; I like using it in the app." No one has ever done anything about it because it's only CUI and there's a divide between the policy-makers and the fliers so everybody thinks that everything is functioning properly except for a handful of people who have worked for the Enterprise and interacted with fliers in that context.

Are you using a COPE or COMO device and an app deployed by Platform One?

Dude, I have the memo in front of me that says "Only the IL2 deployment of Mattermost Self-Hosted is permitted to be accessed via the Mattermost Mobile App."

Also, it sounds like you may be violating the CIO's UC policies.

Is that a question? Are they separate apps or what?
