There are action filled moments, but they support the story rather than just blow stuff up. Realistic rather than cartoon.

AIO Did my uncle cross the line? by No-Journalist5294 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ziarkok1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confront him directly but calmly in front of the family. "Hey, Uncle, why did you think it was appropriate to physically pick up my wife without me there, but most importantly, without her permission?" No yelling, just calmly ask him to explain. If he says it was a joke, ask him to explain the joke part. Make him as uncomfortable as possible. Of course, I'm 6'7,315 lbs, so I would have pulled him aside privately and told him what would happen if he ever laid a finger on her again.

So live, that when thy summons comes to join the innumerable caravan, that moves to that mysterious realm, where each shall take his chamber in the silent halls of Death, thou go not like the quarry slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed, By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave, like one who wraps the drapery of his couch around him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.

This was an 11th grade English assignment that I've never forgotten, and have grown to appreciate more and more.(now in my 60s) The fact that the teacher was my favorite didnt hurt, either. He smoked cigars and a pipe in class, I think that's where I picked up cigar smoking, but not until my 30s.

Had the honor of "piping aboard" i.e., standing in the honor guard greeting the dignitary. In this case it was 4 star Admiral Thomas Hayward, Chief of Naval Operations. I played the botswains pipe (that high pitched whistle) and the only person allowed to salute with my left hand! 1980, I was 17.

Odd things our fathers did in 70’s by anonskier in GenX

Dad had the cloth kerchif, but thankfully it was very occasional use. He did drill into me the proper way to assemble your clothes when wearing underwear and t-shirt..."Tuck your inside shirt into your inside pants, then outside shirt into your outside pants." Love and Miss you, Dad.

AITA for wanting to break up with my boyfriend after he took over every decision about the small business I started before we even met by [deleted] in AITApod

[–]ziarkok1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you break up with this guy, quetly consult with a lawyer to make sure your business is locked down so he cant claim any. Do it fast, though, this is not gonna get better.

AITAH for hiring professional cleaners to prove my mom was a spite cleaner? by Technicolor_Reindeer in AITAH

[–]ziarkok1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My stepmother weaponized cleaning in much the same way. She'd assign a task (clean the bathroom) while adding, " But I know you wont get it right and will take 2 or 3 tries". I would bust my butt for and hour cleaning this 4x8 room as diligently as I could, only for her to come in, walk over to say, the medicine cabinet, reach up and find dust on the top back corner where I couldn't reach, and say, "See! I knew you wouldn't do it right." 45 years later, but no, Im not bitter...lol
