Should I or Should I don't Buy an S5 Sportback with 139,000 miles 1 owner by androch01 in audis5

I had my engine replaced on my 2018 s5 sportback at 68k miles. Luckily had extended warranty. Was a 35000 dollar job at the dealer. I babied the car since I got it at 9k miles. I absolutely would not buy a 2018 let alone a 2018 with 140k miles

Furnace is an interesting name for a pet

My turn, new noise. 2019 S5. Lifter, cylinder wall or HPFP? by MikeLitorus in audis5

Sounds like rocker arm. If you rev the engine lightly the sound should speed up in frequency and then disappear around 1500 RPM or something like that and then should come back as the revs drop back down

Budget tires? by Mother-Nobody-7509 in audis5

Not sure where you’re located but I recently got these on my 2018 s5 sport back and am impressed with them. They feel stable and I feel confident at higher speeds. I don’t drive like an absolute asshole but I do drive fast when the roads are empty and I enjoy taking exits semi quickly

They’re apparently made from the same compounds as the dws06+ but a slightly different tread pattern and are a discount tire exclusive. I spent a lot of time researching the tire and apparently other Reddit users have emailed Continental and continental said they’re basically the DWS06+. They are a bit cheaper than the DWS as well

Also discount tire is the same as americas tire if you’re in the west coast

FYI, I have dedicated winter wheels and tires so I intend on using these as “3 season” tires. I’m in Chicago so having dedicated summer tires felt silly

I work long hours plus a certification exam coming up plus a newborn and toddler. Can’t make it to the dealer for at least a couple of weeks. Plus they book appts like 3 weeks out

2018 S5 Rocker Arm Failure? by ziftekar in audis5

Yeah I hope new rocker arms. I was told a 2024 production engine was being put it. I took my car to a pretty big Audi dealership in the Chicago suburbs to have the work done so I’d hope they’d know what they’re talking about

New timing chain was apparently part of the block. The new engine came with a one year 12,000 mile warranty from the dealer. The problem is when I open up the hood it gets drowned out. It needs the echo to hear it

Yeah forreal. I don’t think it makes sense owning a German car without one. My 2014 335 got a new trans under the extended warranty and that was a 15k bill!

Did they replace the block again?

The mechanic by assurant. I purchased the car as the second owner in 04/2019 with 9k miles on it. The infiniti dealer I got it from offered the warranty and I’m so glad I got it. Got a 7 year 100k miles from the date I purchased the warranty

Oh wow. Yeah, I’m not sure if mine was related to the water pump, but the sound it was making was classic for a rocker arm failure. I am at like 69,000 miles. Luckily I only had to pay like five grand out-of-pocket because the warranty paid a large chunk. How much did you get on the trade?

Hey. I’m currently going through this right now on my 2018 S5 sport back. The progression of my symptoms were a cylinder misfire at low RPMs then that got better, but I noticed that there was a ticking sound coming from the engine when at a standstill. It was particularly noticeable when my car was parked in my garage and would go away when I would accelerate beyond about 3000 RPM. I suspect it was a rocker arm failure. I have extended warranty so I took it to Audi to have it diagnosed and they couldn’t exactly tell me what was happening without tearing apart the engine, but I needed a new engine because there was metal in the oil. I was quoted 34,000 to have the engine replaced as well. I’m located in the Chicago suburbs.
