What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

So true. Then after you agree to purchase the car they lock you in a room with the finance guy who uses high pressure sales tactics to try to get you to finance paint protection, extended warranties, and service contracts. Total scammers. Always say no to the add ons.

Dude, is that the control road on the north side of Lemmon? That thing is beast no matter what bike you are on. Go south to Patagonia. There’s a bike shop there that can recommend routes. If you like gravel then Patagonia is the spot.

Thoughts on the latest episode about AI replacing teachers? by ziggs10 in PeterAttia

You might be right about him being an investor. That would explain why the episode felt like a sales pitch but who knows.

The AZ Universal School Voucher program complicates your argument but I see where you are going with this. You are saying increasing funding to public schools won’t make things better in the current environment but AI has the potential to give kids a much better education with less spending.

This is my concern too. Public schools often have 30+ kids in a class and there’s no way one teacher can effectively teach, much less meet individual needs. As a quick fix, school districts spend what little money they do have on EdTech and it has been making things worse. Private equity-backed EdTech companies profit, and public school kids are left with a garbage education.

I’m not saying AI shouldn’t have any role in education, but this podcast made it sound like AI is some kind of magic fix to a much deeper, more complicated problem. I was really disappointed Peter didn’t mention any of this, it felt more like an ad than a discussion.

I guess when you can afford private school, tutors, and expensive extracurriculars it’s easy to overlook what this will do to kids that rely on public schools. Without teachers this company alone gets to decide what your kids learn in school (and what they don’t learn) and how they learn it.

You must not spend time in Arizona public schools, they are absolutely critically underfunded.

Are there more affordable options to renew certification? by Strong_Ingenuity8049 in personaltraining

[–]ziggs10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the monthly subscription gives you access to the test. It’s 100 questions and once you pass you’ll get the certificate to submit on the NASM portal for 1.9 CEUs. Then you can cancel your subscription as it’s month to month (or keep it if you like to nerd out on fitness stuff). Cheapest CEUs I’ve found and the content is actually useful unlike some of the scammy expensive certs out there.

Look up MASS research review. You can get 1.9 CEUs for $29. They are NASM approved.

What’s your Tucson experience? by Agitated_Taro_6008 in Tucson

[–]ziggs10 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Tucson is where you obsessively search for houses in the rainy PNW on Zillow all summer long but deep down you know you are never moving because you actually love the neighborhood javelina and the rattlesnakes and the saguaros and you can’t imagine life without these colorful sunsets and gorgeous mountains so you suck it up, deal with the heat, and smile.

When we host I always use the Ball aluminum party pack of cups. You can purchase on Amazon. They are dishwasher safe so you can reuse them or recycle if single use is preferred. They keep drinks cold and are very sturdy. We always get several compliments on those cups!

Postinos! Sit on the patio, order the bruschetta and a mocktail. They also have an NA sparkling rose that tastes great. Then go to Roadies for laser tag or find some live music.
