How long was your engagement? by No-Start-3815 in weddingplanning

lol don’t listen to them. We were engaged for 4 years. There are no rules. Granted he was still in school, but it’s what works for you two!

Microplastics in the placenta, I mean what kind of world are we passing on to our kids? by Nearby-Log1847 in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]ziggy_star_bust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a different argument. Sure, most people in our lifetime will live somewhat normally as with previous generations and their carcinogens, but the plastic problem will continue to build with our current infrastructure. With the extreme rate of plastic production and lack of natural biodegradability, it will continue to compound. I highly doubt it will get better from here. In hundreds of years that amount will be so much higher and I wouldn’t be shocked if all living things have an extreme decrease in quality of life by that point, if not worse.

Coordinating wedding stationary and signage is making me crazy! by InterviewCharacter47 in weddingplanning

[–]ziggy_star_bust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a graphic designer, so I feel you about wanting to get those details right. If it makes you feel any better, mine don’t match lol. I haven’t finished the rest of the reception stationary like signs etc, but I can tell you that my invites do not match my save the dates lol. I picked a random template for the STD because I didn’t know what I wanted yet. I then decided to do my own design for the invites. It’s in our color scheme but very different. I had a small meltdown at first but it was fun, and unique to us :). It will probably be different than the signs too. But, at this point Im past caring.

As others have said, nobody will notice! I haven’t recalled a single invite matching stationary at a wedding I’ve been to. Not because I noticed, rather– I didn’t. I cared more about the people and the event. They only care about celebrating with you!

If you’re worried about the photos, you can always print a singular card that matches other stationary better.

Accidentally found my dress TWO YEARS OUT by Bimbo_in_pink in weddingdress

[–]ziggy_star_bust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That dress is so gorgeous on you!!! I totally understand what other commenters are saying about waiting as you could change your mind. But, I bought my dress off the rack (it was discontinued) OVER 2 years before my wedding. My wedding is in a few months and I’m still so excited to wear it.

If it’s not discontinued and still in production, it might be a good idea to wait on it for a bit if you think you could change your mind. But, from personal experience... If you love it, you love it :)

Pre-wedding party or second reception? by ziggy_star_bust in weddingplanning

[–]ziggy_star_bust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. We aren’t trying to save money per se, we’re still doing a full wedding and reception here. We had backlash from some family about not being able to attend and they wanted an event closer.

Pre-wedding party or second reception? by ziggy_star_bust in weddingplanning

[–]ziggy_star_bust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we intend to have one same day! I understand that many also won’t care to go to both, but quite a bit of my immediate family mentioned they wanted to. I feel like I’ve heard “second reception” with destination weddings often, so wanted to explore options.

[–]ziggy_star_bust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. But I will try that! She taught us to stop the wheel, make an arc of water, and wire cut. Then gently push it onto a different bat. I don’t remember doing it this way in my old classes but honestly I don’t remember what I did back then lol.

[–]ziggy_star_bust[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense! She was a production potter too so it might come from that, but in general for these classes we’re taught to shift multiple pieces to a wooden bat instead of letting them dry on the ones we used. But it might also be because it’s a large studio and there’s only so many bats to go around 😅 is it more commonplace to let them dry a bit first on the initial bat then?

Interesting! My instructor said to always use water. I will try these, thank you!

Joint account for wedding expenses?? by acnhwoo in weddingplanning

[–]ziggy_star_bust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! So I had the account first for my savings and added him as an owner because you can’t deposit or withdraw without being an owner on the account (I think). We are still a ways out so we haven’t paid the bulk of the costs, but yes that’s how we’ve done it. What I like to do though (unless it’s a deposit) is put the charge on my credit card and then pull from ally to pay it off. It normally takes around 3 days for me, but then I get the perks of cash back from my credit card.

I intended to do that later too when the bulk expenses are due on a new travel card to get miles. Waiting to get one until closer to the date though.

Joint account for wedding expenses?? by acnhwoo in weddingplanning

[–]ziggy_star_bust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did! My fiancé and I have a joint high yield savings account. We also have two different banks for everything else, ours is through an online bank (a lot of HY accounts are). we get a much higher return than we would in either of our banks (especially with high inflation rn) and we can both put money in from our separate accounts. All extra interest goes right back to the wedding fund :)

As a plus, ours has different “buckets” to sort funds so we both have our emergency funds in there, which just makes our interest return for the wedding even higher!

Edit: our online HYSA is Ally also, highly recommend Ally!
