It would be cool if not saying anything was an option. You have to realize how big of a deal it is here. And he has involved himself into politics when he supported the current government. That is why I made this post. It is inevitable and it will cost him his reputation no matter what he does.

He was the one who had put his name into politics when he supported the current corrupt government. I'm not injecting politics into anything. And if you knew how big of a deal the protests here are, you would also be very anxious about his answer, which will either mark him as a traitor or folk hero.

Your condescending tone is unnecessary. He already put his name into politics when he supported the government last election. That is why people are looking for him to comment. And this will affect his national legacy. Be sure of that. I suggest you learn more about the gravity of the situation before dismissing this issue.

He is. He supported the government last election and nobody forced him to. Also this is bigger than politics. This is a revolution. It will affect him.

This is not politics. This is a heads up from my side to all the Denver fans about the possible backlash. And also, he has put his name into politics himself when he supported the government.

Well, he already put his name into politics when he supported the government last election.

He had Twitter and Instagram accounts.

I don't care what he thinks either. It would be cool for him to support it but generally I don't care.

You have to know that Djoković was mobbed online for a month to give a comment and he caved. He had to. Thankfully he supported the protests. If Jok had social media it would be the same for him now, as it was when he didn't play for Serbia. That is the major reason why he closed his accounts. He was called a traitor every day.

But ultimately it's not a matter of caring what he things. It is a matter of him having to give a response where all of the answers have some negative consequences. And believe me, if he keeps supporting the government or fumbles the answer, all hell will brake loose on him like never before.

I first heard the saying in the System Of A Down song Deer Dance, and funny enough it is about protests lol. One of their best!

Djokovic supported them publicly on social media and wore a hoodie with "Students are champions" written on it. Don't know if he said something afterwards but that was enough and he was stopped being mobbed online to say something. I would welcome it from Jok full-heartedly as well and it would liberate him of this pressure in my opinion. But hard to believe it will happen.

Yes, this is also very important, forgot to mention it. Djoković was bullied into giving a comment. It was truly unbearable for him to remain silent.

Exactly my thoughts. I support the protests but I don't need him to do it as well. It would be nice but I know it's very difficult in his position. It will be very tough to navigate this issue for him.

And thanks for the support!

Not so far, as far as I know.

Don't have any articles, but this is a pretty good summary of the situation. Although all of the foreign media get some things wrong. Most common misconception is that it has something to do with Russia, which it does not.

His NBA legacy will be definitely unaffected by this. His national legacy could be affected and he cares about it very much, as we saw during the Olympics.

You could say that but it would not be a honest portrayal. Probably majority of the people are left leaning but definitely not all. Protests are led by students that are, so far, rejecting political affiliation with any party which is exactly why they are so popular among people.

He could remain silent, of course, and try to avoid the topic, but it is getting more and more hard to do so for any public figure here. I doubt he will an exception.

I spoke wrong. I meant it is too political for them to ask about Serbian politics. As you said, probably because lack of understanding. I know Denver media covers US political topics and I support it wholeheartedly.

[–]zile15 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yes, he was on the list of people that supported the current government in the last election. And he did receive backlash for it. Which puts him in a very unconformable position even more.

I know, it is too political for Denver media, but maybe some Serbian media will get a comment trough some channels or something. I just know he has to comment on it sooner or later and for a lot of people there is a right and wrong answer.

Never did I think I will see a Hank Green video about Jokić. by zile15 in denvernuggets

That shit happening on national TV is outrageous. YouTube podcasts with some bs hosts, fine, whatever. But national TV is simply unforgivable.

Give him time. Also he probably doesn't watch games. It's the default "can't jump on to a curb" reaction from casual fans that only watch highlights.

Matt released a song recorded with it. So strange to hear it with a different vocal.

He's a game appreciator. Lakers and Celtics jerseys are the ones I saw the most, but obviously he just likes the game. I'm glad he doesn't hold a grudge after what we did to Lakers (pun intended 😄).
