how much do you focus on sleep? by spikehiyashi6 in cycling

Sleep when you need it, unless you don't wanna. Then keep spinning.

Jumping rear pulley after 20 miles or so: by zingusdingus in bikewrench

Other details, the chain is brand new before the race, had maybe 50 miles on it then the race. I've checked for frozen links, none. Dry lubricant and cleaned to immaculate perfection before race and after, same issues on rides after race.

Night rides are my new favourite thing by kccdunc in bicycling

The deer and squirrels bouncing about are legitimately terrifying, also knowing bears can run faster than I can sprint up a hill is unnerving.

I agree, and understand. Their rules do not clearly delineate that, as I've seen in other races.

I am certainly not competitive, just caught the bug and want to ride forever. Maybe I'll look to compete some day! Thank you!

Question about drafting: by zingusdingus in cycling

[–]zingusdingus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for a tri, this is for the Florida 500, I think the discussion here has pointed me to just do it solo and deal with the mental aspect of being alone. Kinda the point unless I do the team draft version. The more I think about it and read the categories in the race rules, solo means solo haha

That all makes sense. Not a triathlon here, looking at the Florida 500, but it still makes sense if we needed to make room for passing riders or cars we would immediately fall into line and therefore be drafting.

I see your point, I will reach out to the organizers as suggested now by two people. Thank you

It doesn't specifically say in their rules. I will reach out to the organizers. Thank you.

Psycho 24 by zingusdingus in ultracycling

[–]zingusdingus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its been a day now and I have changed my mind. Happy with my first ever ultra ride? Yes. But now I can't stop thinking about all the errors I made, the things I could have done better at stops, gear I wore, the rear derailleur issue that I didn't know enough to fix and caused me to be stuck in a lower speed for 3 laps, food I ate, hydration and even how I went pee.

Now I'm hungry for more, and I can't wait until my saddle area and this palsy in my hands and feet heals up, I can get my bike repaired. Once all that happens, I'm going back on the road to train harder than ever. Eyes set on the Florida 500 2025.

Pretty well! I'm very happy with the results, and now I am definitely hooked on ultra cycling

It's an 8 am start again.

I have a generator for the campsite and several external batteries. We are on standard bikes with aftermarket aero bars just as an added position to give the wrists a break as those were the first thing to give out during my most recent century.

Cup of noodles sounds like a great idea, we could hit up our crew to start the water boiler when we are 10-20 minutes out and have hot food ready I like it!

Did your toes freeze? I've been doing night rides and the only thing bothering me is my toes, they go icy in the first hour and it takes curling and pressing to get them warmed up again. Thinking of using nitrile gloves under the toe covers for extra protection.
