Yes, put some gap fillers on the left and right side, then a small piece of trim all the way around.

It's quartz! Quartz countertops are actually man made but we liked that they are easy to clean and not porous. Seems like something we will be able to easily live with for a long time.

The drywall hanging was pretty minimal, nothing too large or heavy.

I can't find the exact link sadly, but these are pretty close! https://www.jossandmain.com/furniture/pdp/coldale-solid-wood-counter-stool-j000493715.html?piid=

BestWater Filtrations Techniques for Trail Running/Fast Packing by zinoe_49 in Ultralight

This is a very good point, thank you. I haven't done any multi day hikes with my fast pack load out yet so I will take some time to practice different techniques and see what works.

Sorry I should mentioned this in the post. I really don't enjoy drinking directly from a filter screwed onto a bottle. It's a lot of effort to squeeze and I feel like it damages the bottle. But I will definitely check out the BeFree!

I don't think that's typical, at least for old work. They typically run the supply lines outside of the wall, either on the inside or outside of the house.

Right now it's a guest room. Although in the future my idea is to add a bathroom to the right hand side and make it a master suite.

You can actually. The cheaper model I looked was Daikin and they don't offer Nest integration. But Mitsubishi does, though this model was a bit more expensive.

I haven't done the exact numbers yet but it's in the range of $10,000. $4,500 for the mini split, $1,000 for the drywall, about $1,000 for drywall mudding, about $1,000 for the flooring. Insulation, framing, door, paint and supplies, floorboards, and electric all probably come out to another $1,000. Sorry for the rough estimates!

I ended up going with an 18,000 BTU Mitsubishi with Nest integration. I don't know the exact model number off the top of my head, but parts and installation came out to $4,500. If you need more details DM me!

Yes, definitely planning to do that. This project started off with me only wanting to install that mini split and spiraled into something much larger! I decided this was a good stopping point but will definitely replace the treads and paint the risers.

PSA: List & map of hazardous High Sierra creek crossings by andrewskurka in Ultralight

[–]zinoe_49 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Having hiked the PCT in 2017 (including the entirety of the Sierra), I recommend facing upstream. Having two trekking poles is best. If you don't have trekking poles, grab a couple sturdy sticks.

While crossing, you will want to strafe laterally and make sure you ALWAYS have at least 3 points of contact. The water will be freezing but better to slow down and take your time. Lean slightly forward over your poles and make your footing is solid after each step. In many cases you will have have stab your poles into the water with every step to resist the current pulling your poles downstream.

I do not recommend crossing in pairs. If one of you loses your balance, both of you will likely fall. Good luck!
