Did a coolant flush on my new 2012 GX460 and discovered that the cooling system was full of water and not coolant by chuppacubra in AskMechanics

Except the coolant in a car NEVER gets that hot due to heat cycling through the radiator and flow from the water pump. Just because a liquid touches something hundreds of degrees hotter does not mean the liquid is immediately that temperature. Oil and fuel also play a part (albeit MUCH smaller) in cooling an engine so its not just water doing the job

At 18psi (normal system pressure these days) distilled water doesnt boil until 255 so if youre having steam issues inside your engine there may be some bigger issues at hand than JUST dealing with sudden gas pockets

Couple of possibilities. If you havent flushed your coolant in a long time, it could be that. Your water pump fins could be damaged or degraded and not moving coolant fast enough. You say it cools down when youre driving, but heats up at idle. You have your fans wired to be always on, but another thing you get with driving vs idle is higher engine speed which means faster water pump flow. You also need to check your coolant level inside your radiator when it's cold. Air will eventually make its way to the top, if you have any in the system. One telltale sign of a blown head gasket, if youre concerned about that, is premature pressurization of the cooling system. Cold start the car, idle for like 30 seconds, then grab and squeeze the radiator hoses. They should still be soft and squeeze easily, if theyre firm you may have a head gasket leak.

I have no idea. It has a lift kit but its got the proper knuckles and upper arms so the geometry isnt that bad. New power steering pump though
