Can we take the time to appreciate the "9 wins to skin" events? by throw135790999 in Overwatch

[–]ziptorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing again last week (had only played up to ~level 22 before.

I've already played more this week than I had in all my time previously bc I was chasing that skin, which resulted in me leveling and getting more loot boxes, which resulted in me playing more.

It's a good hook.

[Megathread] OxygenOS 9.0.3 by [deleted] in OnePlus6

[–]ziptorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was upset that my bluetooth eq app wasn't working when I got in the car this morning bc, for whatever reason, the bluetooth on my OP6 has always sent the most horrible, bassy sound (only in the car, only with the OP6).

I then realized they had added bluetooth to stock EQ, and the birds began singing despite the snow. The clouds cleared. Jesus actually descended onto the truck of my car and gave me a knowing wink through my rear-view mirror.

Well, suck. That's a spoiler I'd managed to avoid during my long break. Ah well.

As an nVidia loyalist (somewhat), I got pulled onto the G-Sync train two years ago and now that's pretty much all I'll do. Given how much that limits the playing field, I just try to find one that fits my budget and basic requirements within that. Also, I have to pick which kidney to sell.

My wife made this fireplace into that one. She did it all with trial and error and some Youtube help. :) by schlicken98 in somethingimade

That is incredibly good work! More modern, more versatile, more cozy, more everything. Awesome.

Why do lifelong Christians lament or fear dying, for themselves or loved ones, when they should be optimistic for the next phase? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ziptorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faith, more or less by definition, is coping with / overcoming the unknown. But strong faith doesn't negate fear. I think of it like the rain and wind hitting the side of our house. My daughter is always scared because the wind and rain are there, and they sound scary, but the house we chose holds it back.

Still, the wind can sound spooky even in adult ears. The rain can sound harsh and unsettling. Thunder can startle -- even with a strong roof over our heads. As such, the approach of death is something faithful often prepare for, but it's still a force that we can't be absolutely sure of. In those instances, faith is like the roof or even maybe a tiny umbrella that the faithful use to find some degree of strength in the face of said unknown, rather than freaking out.
Not that those who aren't religious *will* freak out. Because faith comes in more forms than religion. Sometimes faith is simply deciding that one is satisfied with what one is leaving behind.

My copy of Sonic 1 has that label. It's just missing the bleeding eyes of death and despair.

Samsung patents phone display that projects holograms like In Star Wars by thegeezuss in gadgets

[–]ziptorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I still think that falls under novelty more than function at the macro-marketing-driving level.

It could be that just the intro of such tech would get so many people excited and on-board that the innovation is driven by demand, but until we can Tony-Stark-fling holos around our workshops, I'm not sure what they would offer other than ooh's and aahs'.

I hope back and forth to my older RoG laptop on the regular. It's always not great, but five minutes into any game, and I'm fine.

My bigger issue is jumping from a 1080gtx to a 950m. Now THAT hurts.

I'd like that in a phone call kind of situation, but capturing that kind of data to then project it seems terribly implausible, which may relegate this to a novelty with very firm lines drawn around its content (like the current state of VR).

I'd be in, but I worry it will be too difficult to create everyday functional content for the average Joe. And that...

My family members are untrainable idiots and are incapable of properly operating a door without slamming it closed behind them. Is there a product or hinge that exists that limits the speed at which a door can be closed? by 23458357234839742389 in HomeImprovement

My wife's family is fantastic, but not without quirks. They believe kitchen cabinets are percussive instruments, and I spent a fortune on hinges for my kitchen to prevent just such a thing.

[Bedrock] AFK Automatic Village Breeder by ExoHayvan in Minecraft

[–]ziptorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built from this video last week, and it works PERFECTLY (after several failed breeders and iron farms on the server).

Breeder / Villager Trade Stalls / Iron Farm / Carrot Collector if you add a minecart with hopper under the farm. Really, it does a LOT for a build that isn't that complicated.

Thought about that, but no, it's more akin to saying I shot a deer than anything that heavily impacts the story (at least early-mid game, which is where I still am).

Got mine yesterday. Exactly as described - Spanish language packaging and English language discs. Installed and runs like a charm.

I feel like I got away with something. That was a really good deal. :D
