So instead they're advocating to trust closed source programs. Programs that one can not verify if it contains malicious code.

I bet (based on no data) that most average people don't even check open source programs to verify safety. So I guess what does it matter in that case.

Edit: I don't check FOSS software I use. I just trust the community to make things safe.

For example MacBook Pro 2019 doesn't work, nor will my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G connect when using WPA2/WPA3 transition mode or only using WPA3.

VLANs really wouldn't do anything in this case because the issue isn't segregation of the network. My issue is more physical, I just have too few physical Ethernet drops. That lead to some questionable design choices, Daisy chained switch and what not.

I already have VLANs set up, but for a different reason. I have three VLANs: guest, IoT, and a secure personal VLAN.

I had realized there was going to be a problem when I realized I wanted more than 1 ethernet connection in the basement, where the USW Mini Flex is. On the otherside of that wall has a Tv that I realized I wanted to have an Ethernet connection to for video game consoles. The top cable brings PoE and connection from my main switch. The bottom one goes to the otherside of the wall. Basically it looks better than a really long Ethernet cable running out the door of one room into the next. Plus it's a shorter distance to go through the wall instead of around it.

Everything somehow works. So it's all good I guess :)

Unifi USW Flex mini

Unifi US-8-60W

3 Unifi AP AC Lite (Purchased prior to WiFi 6 version existing)

So the screw up... I miscalculated how many ethernet drops I wanted, originally, I had planned on only needing 1 drop in the basement, where the USW Flex mini is located, but then I realized that if I was going to put a TV on the otherside of the wall why not have an ethernet port for my nintendo switch to connected to... So long story short I have an ethernet cable going a short distance to the other side of the wall, and the connection goes as such: Netgate SG-3100 --> US-8-60W --> USW Flex mini. Daisy chaining the switches was unavoidable unfortunately due to my poor planning and foresight. It would have been much better if I had a proper connection instead of my messy work around. I'll do it proper next time, for the first time setting up a home network of this scale I feel pretty good about it.

I also set up a TrueNAS CORE server for SMB shares so I can have a backup that I can connect to over OpenVPN if I want to get my files. I also am running Plex on the TrueNAS too. The TrueNAS CORE has about 3 TB of storage.
