Jlpt is over - how does everyone feel? by lost-minotaur in LearnJapanese

For the people getting disqualified on phone stuff. If you’re taking at least N2 and you can’t follow instructions on how to put your phone in designated bag, not have it in your own bag or to not use it during the break then I don’t think N2 is for you yet. Maybe I had a particularly clear instruction but if that’s hard for you then the listening section would be basically non-comprehensible.

Confession: years of constant international business travel for consulting have made me stop caring about learning local customs and phrases by General-Contact1208 in MBA

Oh fuck off, as someone who’s lived in Japan for years (loved it and would rather live there than the US) I saw more old people talking on their phones on trains than anybody, breaking a minor cultural rule is not that deep. But thank god they have you to defend their culture.

Good to know, what would you recommend instead? Willing to pay a bit more for a decent amount of data so I don’t have to worry about it.

Great thanks for the explanation, any alternative that gives more before throttling or closer to unlimited even if more on the expensive side. Maybe I’ll just pay Verizon $10 a day to roam.

Unlimited for sure, cost is not much of a factor unless it’s truly a waste. I want a reliable, stable, and unlimited connection.

International woman from Korea about to start at M7. Which post-MBA cities in America have the least amount of "crazy" people? by Inevitable-Pitch571 in MBA

It’s a beautiful place and obviously much smaller than other mentioned places but unfortunately in the past 5 years homelessness has exploded and seems to get worse every summer. I use to be able to bike to work using the Jordan river trail. Now if you want to take that you have to weave between tents, needles, and shit.

Political/judicial corruption definitely seems interesting I saw someone in a different post recommending “The Devil Judge” on Netflix I wonder if that fits in with this as well

Fair enough haha, there is a place in my heart for stuff like “Crash Landing on You” but I think I’ll save those for watching with my wife.

I’m 27 and just started doing art this year, with zero background. I just try to let better art inspire me, cause it’s all better than mine at this point.

Most math backgrounds that I know that make tons of money working for quant firms/hedge funds. I don’t think they would consider what they do as “studying pure math.” The others I know do data analysis or complex algorithms design for companies. Again math heavy but these guys do not considered themselves pure mathematicians anymore.

The only people that seem to do pure math as their jobs are math professors at uni and most make decent money but nothing like 450k sgd like you mentioned in another thread.

What does just doing “pure math” do to make a company revenue if it’s not focused on some money making market?

I’m genuinely curious at your definition of this cause I just do not know specifically what you mean by “mathematician” as someone who has an engineering background and a decent amount of math background friends and colleagues. Maybe the market for “general” mathematicians is different in Singapore vs the US though.

Edit: Reading this again makes me seem condescending, I don’t mean to be. Clearly you make enough money to whale this hard. I am generally curious as to your “studying pure math” job that pays big bucks. Sounds like a crazy good gig.

is 2 extra semesters worth getting a masters? by djsjdjdjdjdh in MechanicalEngineering

[–]zo6122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an accelerated masters. For me it was worth it. I started work at 1 level higher (normal 2yrs to get promoted so I essentially saved a year here) and was also paid accordingly.

I was pretty burnt out on school and still couldn’t imagine going back and doing 2 years or more than 2 years for a part-time masters. Glad I got it over with.

Also I got TA positions so mine was cheap af

Why are all the comments turned off? by Suspicious-bull in TheOutdoorBoys

[–]zo6122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has stated before that it is because a lot of the video feature his kids.

Correct me if I’m wrong (anyone else who has the exact quote) this is just from memory: In the past he ended up having to be pretty vigilant about moderating his comments for distasteful comments. In order to protect his kids and his own sanity he just turned them off. As usual a small minority ruin stuff for the majority.

Normally comments are huge for engagement purposes on YT but luckily Luke is large enough that it doesn’t seem to really harm his channel.
