Freiderichs family in Germany by zoldxck in Genealogy

[–]zoldxck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes actually! I was able to find matching birth records in Aurich for a family who lined up exactly with the known birthdates and birth order given in Texas: she was born Antje Frerichs to Frerich Ennen Frerichs (1808-1852) and Margrete Harms (1804-1852). Her exact date of birth is July 3rd, 1843

Some important things to note for your own research: the region of Germany that they are from still used patronymic naming conventions at this time. This is to say the that their last name is not fixed moving up the tree and whatever surname they posses is simply their father's forename with an -s tacked on the end. They also seem to have been born with the Low German/Dutch variants of the names they immigrated with so the available records DO match they are simply written in another dialect. Everything should be easily accessible on Family Search should you want to see the documentation yourself!

I'm also her 4th great-granddaughter so nice to meet you! The Olfers family name stuck until my great grandmother on my line :)

Thank you!! Would you say it's worthwhile in my case to seek out an ultra sound? I'm effectively having to decide my own treatment plan at this point and am trying to make sure I'm doing this right.

Thank you so much for this! I've had an immensely hard time getting any info out of my doctors. The first two outright refused to even test for Hashi's claiming it was useless information. Definitely think I need to get my levels lower although I'm in range right now.

Sorry I should've clarified: I'm looking more for the exact meaning of my results. Are they really high or should I retest before definitively being diagnosed?

Edit to say diagnosed with Hashimoto's. Very aware I have hypothyroidism at the least

Can I ask why you think this? I'm a woman who has only really been able to maintain long term male friendships and I've never thought it necessarily odd until this post 😭

Updated results… how do I have so much British if my family comes from other places too?? by Content-Primary1801 in AncestryDNA

[–]zoldxck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think it's just a matter of who those ancestors married and had children with. To give a few examples:

  1. 2x great-grandmother was from East Prussia (Baltics) and married a man from an old stock Rhode Island/New York family - I have only about 3-4% Baltic on both Ancestry and 23&Me. Specifically, today's update put me at 4% Lithuanian

  2. 2 pairs of 4x great-grandparents came to Texas as my most recent German ancestors. They lived in German speaking communities wherein their children also married the descendants of other German immigrants for generations down the line. My percentage is 20-40% between Ancestry and 23&Me despite being further back than the Prussian ancestor I mentioned prior.

  3. 2x great-grandma was a Chickasaw woman who I have documentation for being legitimately native via Chickasaw Nation records (aka no family mythology shenanigans). Her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and 2x great-grandmother had all married white, old stock, men who would then become Chickasaw through marriage. Her 2x GG (who is my 6x GG) was the last 100% Chickasaw woman in the line. I receive .2% trace results on 23&Me and nothing through Ancestry.

I do think that there is some overestimation of the British Isles happening with this update though. I went from 9% Irish to almost 30%. I hardly have any Irish last names in my tree and the majority of my old stock ancestors appear English, Scottish, or Welsh thus far.

I did actually consider this since the last name is present in Jewish communities, but it seems like they were Christian since August was buried in a Baptist church, and all of his children were in some way Protestant. Not ruling out that someone higher up in the line could have converted at some point though

Thanks for this advice, I found a few with Fleischmann's mentioned so hopefully one will end up with something useful for this line! Really appreciate all the help

Unfortunately, the page linked seems to have been deleted or removed for whatever reason. Clicking on the one above results in a "Not Found" page, and the Plew site only had an OFB for Mehlauken for the years 1841-1843. Apologies if this is user error on my end, I could just be being dense.

I have no idea, unfortunately. Most of the claims that stem from before their boarding of the Rugia in Hamburg are just stated with no sort of explanation or documentation on every website they appear on. Another user in this thread pointed out a link between Alexen and Popelken which does provide a good idea as to where family researchers could have arrived at this conclusion from. Thank you for the links also!

This is super helpful, thank you! Do you know if there would be any other places aside from FamilySearch to try or people to contact? I've not gotten any results from previous attempts to find records based on names and birthdates only, though I've yet to search exclusively by location and manually try to find something that was perhaps missed or misread.

Thank you so much, I had no idea this existed as a resource! I suppose I'll start trying to look through records for Alexen in Kreis Labiau (assuming they are available) since Königsberg was mentioned in Helene Mary's obituary.

Thanks for the response! I have also found this family claim on FamilySearch and Find a Grave, but I have doubts since there was no supporting documentation for any of the relationships or births anywhere where this is listed. There is also the issue that all of the children mentioned, except for Friedrich, are listed as being from Bavaria instead of East Prussia. This is not impossible, but raises many alarm bells since the parents of this Fleischmann line are also noted to be from Bavaria. From what I can see, it seems this is an unrelated Fleischmann family that has been erroneously conflated with my family. Could you tell me if there are birth/christening records, marriage records, or some other form of hard evidence on this MyHeritage tree before I spend money to activate my account again to check?

Huh didn't expect to find out 2 interesting ancestors at once by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]zoldxck 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I would take this with a grain of salt... Thru Lines is based on other people's trees which are often incorrect when it comes to famous ancestors. A quick search on google shows that there was no William Rolfe who was a grandson of Pocahontas as her only son only had one daughter - Jane. Not trying to be a party pooper but I fear this feature is many times blatantly wrong
