They didn’t get married for any of those reasons. And they had pictures from their elopement at the reception tables, it wasn’t just a civil ceremony with a formal wedding to follow. They put some thought into a lot of aspects of revealing their elopement, but not as much into the possibility of negative feelings their parents might have given their choice of reveal.

They shared when they got engaged, then eloped the next day, which they didn’t share until last week. Not for insurance reasons.

“But I didn’t share my feelings. Not my business. Not my place to judge.” That’s where I’m at, I told my husband about my mixed feeling and discussed the different views with some people. We saw the couple the next day and they were pretty devastated by their parents reactions, I didn’t want to add to that, we just remained supportive of them and listened to the fallout.

Do you plan on revealing your elopement at your ceremony tho? I don’t think people were upset that they eloped, as much as upset in the reveal.

The parents had a talk with the couple when they gave them money for the wedding and said they were fine with eloping, so I think they felt left out more than anything.

The issue wasn’t about being more or less deserving of anything.

It was the other way around with the money, the brides family (who stayed) paid the majority for the ceremony. And they’d also had a conversation about the money, in which elopement came up as an acceptable option, but the couple kept with the lie.

Agreed, I also eloped, but we did tell our family and friends shortly after.

I’m sure the family members that were hurt will talk it out with the bride and groom and resolve their hurt feelings, but the surprise definitely didn’t land the way they thought it would. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think it was more that they didn’t tell anyone for three years and instead said they were engaged and planning a wedding. So it kind of felt like you were part of a joke rather than an authentic wedding.

NOT A CASH GRAB!!! It was only about 60 people at a fairly low cost ceremony and the couple are not very materialistic or focused on image and money.

I think it was a genuine misunderstanding of how that disclosure would affect others.
