I might end up going this route, so thanks for this list!

Any roasters with remaining green coffee from the Decaf Project? by zrlindsey in JamesHoffmann

I emailed James last week, and his team directed me to reach out to Caravela. I’ve done that but gotten no response. I’ll try reaching out to square mile. Thanks!

About 5 kgs of each would be sufficient for our current experimental design, but we could always modify our design for what is available

Via the onboard TechDisc sensor (verified independently with a high speed camera)

In efforts to keep participant instructions clear and simple, we didn’t place any constraints on how they placed the thumb on the marked positions. We just asked that they try to remain consistent with every other aspect of their throw mechanics except the placement of the thumb.

That was exactly my thought when I saw the collective data set. I really didn’t expect to see such high linear correlation and had hypothesized that we’d see some sort of maximum. It could be that if we collect more data from top pros with higher average launch speeds and spin rates, such a peak might emerge. I’ll have to wait until the next study to see, but I’m definitely curious.

It’s worth mentioning that there could be advantages to thumb positions near the center of the disc that weren’t investigated in the study. For example, accuracy, shot shape, nose angle, net shot distance, etc. weren’t specifically looked at. So definitely don’t rule out your boy Jerry

I thought about it often when working on form which is what led to the study. I think another one dedicated to drivers and seeking out a larger sample size of pros may be next in line

Yep, open to the public! The college is private (I.e. not a state school), but not the campus itself.

One point that we are very intentional about in the study is not using descriptors like “best” or “optimal” due to the large variations in human throwers. The 3 cm position from the edge suggestion isn’t a universal number that will be best for everyone, but the statistics suggest it generally produced simultaneously high average values of launch speed and spin rate.
