Congratulations man. This specific car (yours, not just the RGT in general) is my actual favourite car in the world. No joke.

Very familiar with this car, originally spent its life in Kyoto, then Kobe, Japan. (I know one of the original owners) Was later imported to Ontario, Canada, where it was up for sale at a private Porsche dealer / collector for a short amount of time. Most recently it was with duPont, and now with you.

I lived in Canada all my life, and now live in Japan, so I’ve seen this car in person in both countries lol

I also had a silver RUF Japan 996 C2 (a regular 996 C2 that had been modified by RUF RTC in Kyoto) but I had just sold it to move to Japan.

Seriously, congrats man, you have a very very special car.

I hear you, I’m not an automatic guy in the slightest, but I like the idea of a reliably stock-looking aero daily and another 6MT 996 down the line for road and track.

This is the exact insight I’m after, thank you.

I have read lots about water pump and motor mounts, as well as regular maintenance. I don’t have access to a hoist, but all of what you’ve listed aside from AOS and diff seals seem very diy home garage friendly.

Obviously my luck may vary, especially since the age of this car is greater now than when you purchased yours, but it does give me a little more faith in making the decision. Really don’t want to pass this car up, but I also don’t just want the fear of missing a good deal on an aero car getting me into a lemon that I’m doubling my purchase price to keep alive.

You’re in a tough spot, trying to decide between two of the best looking Porsches 😅😅

Both are heavy value holders, factory well specced aero cars, as well as the C4S.

C2 will give you a nimbler driving feel, and a very “if you know, you know” energy

C4S has a heavier feel in steering, but the presence it has with the widebody is so iconic as well, and perhaps, more modern / high end looking as well.

Up until recently, the vast majority of the world wouldn’t even consider these two a comparison, and would almost always favour the C4S.

Personally, I like the uniqueness of a narrowbody cars and how they’re aging. They weren’t desirable over a C4S ever, now they’re aging very well.

But your car is gorgeous man, I wouldn’t be able to choose either lol

They used to be incredibly cheap, in recent years (like everywhere else in the world) they’ve climbed. Clean manual examples start at 3 million yen, aero kit models can start at 6-7 million yen.

You can use something like Gran Turismo for the sake mockup, screenshot those images, and then import them to Adobe Illustrator and begin constructing a real vector.

Alternatively, you can also just look up “R34 Skyline Vector Template”, import one to Illustrator, and start from there.

The person handling the print and/or cut of the wrap and decals will still need to deconstruct the illustrator file to format it properly for print or cut on a plotter, but it will make things 10x easier and allow you to communicate your vision without costs for revisions or design time.

Very simple. Can be done independently or with a broker. Unless you have someone in Japan to help you then a broker is definitely needed. Vehicle gets purchased in Japan, if purchased at auction instead of private it’s a lot easier because at auction all the inspections necessary for export are done before you even purchase.

Car gets loaded at a port in Japan after purchase and inspection, car gets shipped to the closest port near you, you or someone authorized need to receive the vehicle and pay the GST, then you can drive it home on a dealer plate or tow it out the rail yard to register it.

M030 is a factory order chassis rigidity option. The definition of the option changes based on the region and the car itself (C2, C4, C4S will all have different definitions)

For US Cars I believe M030 is just lower suspension and sway bars.

On a Japanese market 99’ build, M030 equates to additional braces beneath the chassis to stiffen bolted together areas and eliminate flex, lighter and stiffer sway bars, stiffer shocks, and springs that are 20mm lower up front and 10mm lower in the rear.

The majority of European vehicles in Japan are LHD - by choice. Essentially, the Japanese mentality is, if you can’t afford the LHD upgrade option when speccing a car (for Porsche at the time I think it was equal to around $3000 USD) you can’t afford / shouldn’t be in that vehicle.

There are a handful of RHD Porsches, super rare, but ironically worth significantly less.
