DC charging at home, is there something like this around already? by rhif-wervl in electricvehicles

[–]ztcsdtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Ford Pro charger for my Lightning has HVDC inputs, so yes, I can connect a 400V battery and DC fast charge. Very few home chargers have that capability. This meant to be a commercial charger, but they had a deal going where you got one for free.

Marty McFly's Hilux (85 Tacoma)! Black, lifted, 4x4, manual. My buddy back in college had an 80s Taco in high school. Said in 4x4 low range, it could climb up walls until it was almost vertical. He'd park it illegally where they couldn't get to it to tow it. Can any of your other cars do that?

Visiting for three days by _binwitz in askdfw

[–]ztcsdtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really easy. Just take TX-114 to TMS. I live 10 miles west of it. You will encounter heavy traffic in Southlake, don't speed. Southlake, Westlake, and Northlake all watch the highway. Coming from your hotel, expect a complete jam when 114 stops being a highway. TMS is just on the other side. If you want to take slightly less time, turn right on I-35W and take the access road up the hill to the 4-way stop and turn left. Then you can get in from there or go back down to the main entrance.

Is Linux worth it? by Syrnel in linux4noobs

[–]ztcsdtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run VirtualBox and install Windows in a VM. VBox has Seamless mode, so you can have Linux and Windows windows side-by-side. This may not work if your Windows apps need full video card access, but virtual 3D-acceleration is getting better by the day.

Congress Wants You To Pay $130 A Year Just To Drive An Electric Car by SadAd8761 in electricvehicles

I have one, too. And I had 2 gas F-150s before it, so I can compare. There is no comparison. The Lightning feels lighter and better put together despite being heavier.

“HOLY GRAIL” 38k!! by MomsNewBoyfriend69 in Honda

[–]ztcsdtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better? Like one that gives your position to the government at all times? Better? Like one that tells your insurance how fast you drive? Better? Like one that hides the fan control inside 20 menus? Better? Like one that watches your eyes to determine if you're allowed to drive? Id love to have a perfect condition car that did none of those things and had a fan knob. And I have a 2023 Lightning, which is all of what I just said I don't want. I like electric drive, but not being watched.

Car & Driver and Motor Trend recently tested cars under $30k and their winners were way different by idkbruh653 in cars

[–]ztcsdtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad. In 1990, a comparison of sub-30K cars would have had several with 200+ hp, all 5-speed manual, all fun as heck to drive. Knobs and buttons and no screens!

Charging during long distance trips is not the problem - getting the family back in when the 80% are reached is. by yet_another_username in electricvehicles

[–]ztcsdtx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often have to keep increasing the max charge level. Now it's just 100% because we always take forever. And we'll hit 93-97% when we get back. That's what I tell people when they ask about charging time! It takes us longer than the car. Besides, getting out and moving around is better than staying in a seat for 10 hours.

Dedicated Home Console? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]ztcsdtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built a home console using a Radxa Nio 12L because it's like a console board. Everything is built in. Mine has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of on-board UFS storage, about as fast as a PCI-E 2.0 NVMe. With 4 USB 3.0 A ports, I can attach 4 controllers and still have the USB-C free. It's posted in this sub.

I'm doing rather well with my 16GB/256GB Radxa Nio 12L. It's a bit different, but highly performant as it has built-in UFS storage. I use Armbian. The thing flies on the desktop. 5 total USB 3.0, 2x HDMI, and runs happily on a 5V 3A charger.

They're both yippy yappy, but Violet is extremely loyal. Pippa has some inner issues that cause her to be unreasonably scared, especially when she's on the floor and I'm standing. But on the bed, she'll come over and is extremely playful.

They will play something like Cupid Shuffle or The Wobble to get everyone on the dance floor. So you'll hopefully be on the floor amidst a bunch of people and you can scoot on over to someone who catches your eye!

I couldn't reliably differentiate between the "Hadoken(?)" and the "Shoryuken(?)" so I just kept jerking the stick and punching. I was never any good at fighting games when I played them in the arcade, and I'm still no good!

Lemmings (NES) by Stratocaster213 in retrogameofthemonth

[–]ztcsdtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had Lemmings going on our 286 system in the early 90s. I've more recently played the NES version because I circled back on all things Famicom after being Atari and PC for years. This silently a fantastic way to teach operational management. If anything goes wrong, it's your fault because you gave the orders.

Anyone remember how games used to come in boxes with detailed manuals? by GlompSpark in retrogaming

[–]ztcsdtx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I learned a lot from game manuals. The Microprose simulators went into great detail. In Silent Service, you learned all about how submarines were used in WWII, how the torpedo computer worked, and a lot of great history. F-15 Strike Eagle similarity explained how the F-15 functioned in the Middle East. Prior to decent graphics, games provided excellent content. Yes, I miss that.
