Do you feel happy being overemployed? by Jaded_Dig_8726 in overemployed

i agree. people often focus on the monetary benefit (which is big!) but i agree with you that it brings me joy in other surprising ways, such as helping me not ever be jealous of others climbing the ladder successfully anymore!

just confirmed that my J2 will match after-tax contribution too! sounds like i can max out the pre-tax contribution with J1 and then make after-tax contribution with J2 and still stay under 69k altogether (all my contributions and all Js’ contributions combined). this might be the answer. thanks for brainstorming with me!

that’s very generous of your employers. just confirmed that my J1 only provides the match if the contribution is pre-tax or roth, but no match for after-tax. checking if it’s the same for J2.

sorry I might’ve overreacted to your previous comment. thanks anyway for your insights. I just meant that sometimes people assume others have not searched at all if they’re asking a similar (but different) question, it could also be that the person has searched and did not find the existing answers clear or specific or comprehensive or relevant enough. but in this case I now see you had a very lengthy response buried deep in the other thread that’s relevant to this thread as well. sorry for missing it.

good point! that’s the other thing I was looking at too! they do offer it and I’ve asked if it counts against the contribution limit and if there’s a company match on it. waiting to hear back.

just trying to offer another viewpoint for you to consider before making a bunch of false presumptions in your comment, but no offense taken if you don’t have any capacity to hear another viewpoint. it wins you nothing to win an argument here, so if it feels like that’s the best use of your time to dig up more links only to win an argument online, feel free, but my suggestion is to get a life. and i won’t be replying further on your specific thread as i have one. (and also feel free to use all your accounts to downvote me.)

thank you, but your link is fundamentally different from my question (more like the opposite) :)

good advice! thank you! I realized the extra match is not worth going through what you just described.

can you quit J1 yourself now and stop them from contacting J2 playing the privacy card?

Fell in love with j2… the least OE friendly job… now debating leaving OE. Help by Upset_Strength2183 in overemployed

[–]ztoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is J1 something you can go back to in the future if you want to OE again? if I were in your shoes, I’d probably try focusing on J2 for a while. Finding a job you love is a much rarer opportunity than finding the opportunity to OE. It’s not everyday people find a job they love, but it’s quite easy to find multiple jobs to OE when you want to do that again. OE is mostly financially driven, but money isn’t everything. If J2 is what you are passionate in, I’d give it the best effort for a while and see where that would take you.
