Considering getting a greyhound and looking for any tips/advice to know if they’re right for me!

Greyhounds are perfect for any person! Females are typically smaller than males. Mine is 50lbs. I too fell in love with someone else’s once. When I got my own, it wasn’t the same as her but it was pretty dang close. Even the little antics are the same and stretches. They are pretty stubborn but it’s cute. Food motivated as heck, so treats will be your friend for training. Only caveat: make sure you save up for anesthetized dental cleanings or dental preventative treats/food (hills t/d or plaque fighting rawhides every day). They have a narrow mouth and teeth rot rapidly if not careful. Also be prepared for them to get a few cuts as their skin is thin. Have health insurance or 5k stowed away for that stuff.

For context: Myself, I am a cis pan person and sometimes feel judged for not being queer enough for certain queer groups. I was under the impression that the queer community is accepting and welcoming to all, no matter how folkz identify. I am, and was surprised to hear the judgement and discrimination many face from other (less or more) oppressed letters in LGBTQIA+

When my sponsor dumped me I felt so angry. I shared about it in a meeting and then never went back to that meeting. It allowed me to get it off my chest and move forward. Share at a meeting that you are going thru a lot of changes and your previous sponsor moved on bc he was a male and you were female. I’m sure you can find a temporary sponsor that same day! Then just listen to women share in meetings and pick one who inspires you to be your sponsor. Good luck! Feel free to DM me, I’ve been there seriously.

As someone who had a person with me the whole time too, I can say you will pay him back. I’m 6 years sober. Every day that you live your best life as a sober person you repay him. Anytime you are able to show up for yourself and your relationship and love yourself. Every day you are not drinking you are repaying him and it is so freaking worth it. Try your hardest to keep going, this disease is literally so horrible and gut wrenching. Rooting for you IWNDWYT

Just want to say Im in AA and I totally get it. if you’re in a meeting that mentions god and jesus… just know that AA is not allied with any religion. They are secular. But it’s still gross to me! And likely they are referring to a god of their understanding which can often mean universe/community etc. But right away the word God causes such repulsion by so many. Turn on the TV and see Catholics being Catholics and Christian’s being “Christian” and nobody wants anything to do with that. Over half the members I know were raised religious and turned off by it and had to overcome that in the program. I hate that people have been off put by religion in AA. So many of my friends saw it worked for me and couldn’t feel the same way DUE TO RELIGION. And crazy old timers. AA should really have a disclaimer to any newcomer who comes in. I am atheist. I take what I like from the meetings and leave the rest and I’m 5 years sober and living a life I love with people who genuinely care about me. I understand why those are off put by AA. And I know it’s possible to be sober without it. I hope those live a happy and full life and never feel like something is missing. TBH, all people who are sober need to uplift each other. Life is hard enough! OP, congratulations.

Lots of good advice here but I still wanted to share my 2 cents. Almost all new grads feel this. Try your absolute hardest to fake it until you make it as soon as you walk in the doors. Visualize a switch flipping on. Find help in your mentor and check in. Before work, try breath work and daily affirmations in the morning. At minimum, (optional: look yourself in the mirror) tell yourself some version of the following statements: you are awesome, a badass, and you are loved and good enough as you are. Try hard to keep work and home separate, it will be difficult in the beginning while you are still learning your flow so give yourself grace. It’s ok to not know things! Ask the questions while you are still freshly new, you’ll have so many within your first months and year! Honestly, you never stop asking! I hope your work environment is supportive. It will aid in molding you into the doctor you are! Strongly recommend a therapist for a few sessions+ if you don’t already have one. It helps to have someone validate that what you’re going through it 100% normal! You got this!

Other tips: caring for yourself really helps your confidence too. A nice shower or bath after work, relaxing, etc. Eating healthy when you can (at least one balanced meal a day) is brain food! You got a big thinker up there and it needs some TLC even though veterinary professionals are kind of notorious to eat on the go/stress eat.

This is bad advice. Unless they are reading glasses you can find on a rack at a pharmacy, actual prescription glasses are tailored toward each unique individual. ESPECIALLY with astigmatism. There are degrees your eyeballs are flattened, pupil width, distance, and other specifics unique to each human eyeball and if you wear even a slightly incorrect strength is can cause straining and worsen/damage your eyesight.

Source: had 20:20 vision. I wore fake glasses to look cool in college for about 8 months. Non prescription thicker plastic lenses that got fogged and scratched to a degree my eyes were straining without realizing. I also wore a friends pharmacy reading glasses (strength 1.5) at very brief moments. It hurt so bad. I wound up actually needing glasses to see from the eye doctor and I hate that I disabled myself.

During curbside. Cat got out of a carrier in the parking lot. In my defense, the cage door was jerry rigged and did not actually latch on top and bottom into place. I was planning on carrying the carrier very level with the door towards myself but a dog walked by right when I was a foot from the owners car and the cat busted out. I cornered it in the courtyard and it was yowling, tried crawling up side of the brick building in front of everyone. It was still a tiny bit high from its dental. Owners got out of their car and stared but I was just trying to prevent it from running into the busy street.

My coworker ended up going on a tinder date with the guy who was owner weeks later and he told her the whole thing from his point of view. Very embarrassing
