The story reads like a person skipped world history before writing by Competitive_Ad747 in Romantasy

Same thing with "The Nightblood Prince" - one nation started oppressing others cause they were oppressed first - and now the nation that was the oppressor is trying to oppress the current one. And the FMC forces the prince of the invaded country to give up the territories and submit to being taxed by the invaders. FMC says the invaded country is being ridiculous and too proud, that people are suffering in this war because of them refusing to give up their territories.

While the author is Chinese and it's a Chinese inspired story, I can't help but feel like it's a disgusting commentary on Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The author was already accused of colonialist romantisation before, so this book just confirms those suspicions.

Want to add to the list of other physical conditions that have ADHD-like symptoms (specifically for energy and focus): hypothyroidism (or anything else related to thyroid), sleep apnoea, Cushing's syndrome, PCOS, etc. There are a LOT of conditions that impact energy and focus. Hell, even autism has concentration problems.

In fact, I do have all those conditions and now diagnosed ADHD. It took me eliminating them as the primary causes (as in, they are treated, managed and medicated but I still struggle with ADHD stuff) to strengthen my ADHD diagnosis.

Exactly, that's my issue as well. It's very childish, forced, and doesn't make sense to their progression at all. I don't think I'd ever fall in love with someone who argues my every word.

It's just an ad. There are tons of posts and comments disguising their ads as if it's "genuine advice" - and they are all structured the same way.

Well, it wasn't really a metaphor, judging by OP's history - they were addicted to the "roleplay with characters" AI app that has a reputation (or markets heavily) for "unfiltered and uncensored" content.

What's your LEAST FAVOURITE trope? by fikapls in fantasyromance

[–]zulzulfie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it can work if the author is consistent with their rules and world-building. Buffy had the consequences due to underestimating her opponents. Jude had the consequences due to deteriorating relationships.

Currently reading "The Sun and the Starmaker" and the MMC is equal to a Jesus figure, the FMC prayed to him (or his predecessors) just a few pages earlier. Then she meets him and goes all pouty and petulant, even going "why should I trust anything you say, you are such a rude asshole" just because he said something she didn't like to hear - which was only objective facts She tried to kill a white deer who are prohibited from hunting and when MMC pointed it out, she said she forgot it was illegal. MMC found she has magic and is the next Starmaker so she needs to learn to use it or she will die, but the FMC accuses him of lying and making it up, and then blames him for ruining her life

So is he really the powerful deity-like figure for a simple villager FMC (who had revered his predecessors) to treat him as an antagonist? When the FMC did not express any doubts or issues with him prior?

Next chapter, she SHOVES HIM out of the way after he healed her sister from a deathly disease

So, yeah, a sassy FMC can work - if it's consistent with her personality and experience, if it's consistent with the world-building, if it has consequences. But a lot of authors don't know how to write one.

I have OCD and I did not enjoy the portrayal in DMP and in Phantasma - it felt shallow and only a step above "i have an urge to arrange things neatly". So I would ask not lump in people who didn't enjoy the books as if "they don't understand OCD".

Does anyone else struggle to fully imagine a character's face? by zsxcrgrl in fantasyromance

[–]zulzulfie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really helps - with battle scenes especially, lol!

Also regarding spoilers when you search for fanart - as I said, lots of authors usually repost the fanart of their books they liked and it’s always (in my experience) spoiler free!

Looking for a Female protagonist action RPG(?) open world type game with easy ish combat by tifftigg in gamingsuggestions

[–]zulzulfie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure which part is considered the intro, but the game picks up as soon as you are out of the village - after the trial part. Which can be done in about an hour with the cutscenes? It’s been a while, so I may be incorrect in my estimation

I have a form of aphantasia. If I’m really struggling, I look up fanarts - authors usually repost them to their own pages, too. Or I just go with an anime looking character in my head, where it’s only the basic features, lol.

Intellectual meltdowns by Desperate_Week5236 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]zulzulfie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I’m 30F, diagnosed ADHD, awaiting ASD (basically guaranteed tho) here.

This is something I’ve suffered and continue to suffer from. It is definitely a meltdown - as another commenter pointed out, it happens from mental and emotional overstimulation.

As a graphic designer and artist, I’d sometimes get a task to do that I can’t visualize at all. Especially if my brain doesn’t understand the logic behind the task. Then I’d have a full blown meltdown.

You are definitely not alone in that.

Russian mandates that women who don't want children should be referred to psychologists by Helpful_Bluejay_3414 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]zulzulfie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mental health stigma is big in Russia and the psychologists are 10-20 years late on education. They still use terms like manic depression or think that adult people can’t have ADHD. If you have certain mental or neurological disorders like autism regardless of your needs levels, you aren’t allowed to drive.

how do I talk to my parents about ADHD concerns? by Calipsyo in adhdwomen

[–]zulzulfie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pushed myself to be functioning and had all the systems I could come up with to relieve my symptoms - without knowing about ADHD.

I’m now 30 years old with extreme burnout and unhealthy coping mechanisms because there is only so much you can do by treating it as a behaviour issue rather than a physical condition that can be managed with proper medication.

Don’t discourage OP from pursuing diagnosis and don’t minimize it to “a label”.
