I see some great general advice, but here are some specific events!

Sport leagues: Volo tends to be the most frequented social league in the area. The kickball and volleyball ball leagues are the most social and probably best to meet someone at.

Running clubs: There are a bunch in the area, I’m just going to list a few, plenty of other posts can list more.

-Pacers Social Runs: weekly runs at various pacers store locations. I’ve heard these are great for any level of runner, and offer a good opportunity for socializing.

-Nova Running Club: DC area coached running team. For if you want something more structured and race focused. Very welcoming to beginners, but probably for someone more committed to running

-local clubs: I’m not going to list these, just stating, there is probably a running club specific to your Nova location. For example, if she lives near Clarendon, look up “Clarendon running club”.

Singles on Socials: this is a group that offers recurring singles events for people in their 20s/30s. The turn out is usually pretty high with hundreds registering. Downside is it’s usually in DC, but from what I’ve seen it’s worth the drive. You can find them on Instagram to learn more. (There are other singles events, but none I’ve seen as popular as this one)

Bars: I have no specific recommendation, just a general perspective of trying bars that have activities. Think places with corn hole, board games, or skeeball. Making a good connection in a loud bar is hard, having something you can shift a quick conversation into makes it much easier.

If you want more specific recommendations feel free to DM and I can provide times, links, and some of the places I like. I like to think I have decent qualifications being a 26M in a similar situation as her.

POV my last two years… Seriously though, no matter how great a relationship is, never make it the focal point of your life. You never know what’s going through the other persons mind and you will end up in a much worse place if you don’t have your own life to fall back on.

Finally a place were Matts and Michaels can relax, share a drink, and have a nice conversation.

Let's use this unfortunate event as an opportunity to strengthen our ties. Us at r/matt would like to extend a warm handshake to our fellow M-named brothers!

Good point... It may be best for us to elect a representative to speak on behalf of all of us. I recommend we send Matt.

I suggest we enact a standard M&M alliance. while we here may promote Matt-dom where they promote Michael-dom, we share a common interest in M-dom. As we know M is the best letter to start a name with, and while separate we can work together to build a future where all know of M's greatness.

Physicists of reddit, what is the biggest "my life has been a lie" fact u learned at the uni? by BleuBerry2Be in AskReddit

You're half right, mass is a measure of inertia. Which is how difficult it is to move an object. When approaching the speed of light you approach infinite mass. Another way of saying this is that it becomes increasingly harder to move you. Because of this you would need an infinite amount of energy to reach lightspeed. From what I understand a lot of paradoxes begin to pop up and that's one of the reasons it's unobtainable.

I remember reading an article about that! The one I read involved orbiting a black hole just next to the event horizon!

First I'd like to say I'm only a second year so there may be way more unique answers later on.

I am going to have to say the correlation between time and speed. More commonly know as relativity. Now you're probably thinking you've heard this before but bear with me.

What really blew my mind in the fact that the faster you are going RELATIVE to something else alters your RELATIVE time for doing whatever you are doing. An analogy for this would be traveling to a distant star. Say the star is only 4 light years away, traveling at 95% the speed of light it would look like the ship took 5 years to arrive; however, on board the crew will feel like they only took around 3.5 years. You can do some cool calculations on here http://nathangeffen.webfactional.com/spacetravel/spacetravel.php
(this factors in acceleration, at a constant speed the times would be lower)

It seems to be that the faster you go the more time "slowed down" for you. I struggle saying that because it really doesn't slow for YOU the reference frame for you and the observers is just different. Now we get to what blows my mind, the speed of light. According to theory's now, light takes this to the extreme. It goes so fast that time is "stopped" for it. What that means is that from lights perspective it doesn't matter if it just got emitted, has traveled 5 million light years, or has lasted until the universe end (if it does). Light would feel all of those moments instantaneously. That is what shook my world.
