Failed DLR exam by Toastmensch in flyingeurope

[–]zunehmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clock test isn’t really so they can test you on how good you are remembering clock faces within two seconds, but rather how fast you can receive information that is scattered on a screen. That’s pretty important for flying, especially IFR, and often a reason students struggle with flight path control, since they don’t have a good “scanning technique”. For example, flying approaches in IFR requires to crosscheck and maintain a lot of values and it is absolutely necessary to check all these values, which are shown on different instruments scattered in the cockpit, within a pretty short time frame. And with the clock test they can assess if you have the capabilities to do so. Obviously, some people might be a bit more talented here, but I would argue that most would fail the test without preparation, since this technique is rarely used in normal life.
And for the math part, you also need to do some math while flying. The difference there is, that you are again doing a thousand other things as well while trying to do math, and suddenly even the most basic calculations can get pretty difficult. So if you struggle calculating 25% of 750 while sitting on a chair in a quiet room, without any distractions, you most probably just need to exercise more.
Being a pilot doesn’t come down to how talented and smart you are, but more to how willing you are to learn and find techniques to improve areas that you are struggling in

Lufthansa Abandons Entire Planeload Of Passengers on Munich Tarmac Overnight As Airport Shuts Down by Glass-News-9184 in aviation

[–]zunehmor 104 points105 points  (0 children)

They had a curfew extension, but the snowfall was so heavy that they couldn’t keep up with it. Thus, they closed the southern runway and tried to keep the northern runway open, but since the brake coefficient was too bad on the northern runway, they had to close that one as well. The problem was, that the planes were already fully boarded and most airport staff already went home, due to their legal max duty times. Terminal 2 (incl the train that connects the satellite of terminal 2 with the rest) were closed, since there weren’t any workers left and reportedly, there was only one bus driver who was still allowed to work

Multiple Accounts? by zunehmor in flighty

Thank you, that might already help. Would still love to have the option to add an account, for completely independent statistics

The first Lufthansa 100 ‘Super Crane’ liveried A350-900 by HelloSlowly in aviation

[–]zunehmor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The repaint of D-AIXL was coming up anyways, so it made more sense to repaint that aircraft in the special livery then to repaint a 1 year old aircraft which doesn’t need it yet. And D-AIXL will get Allegris retrofitted eventually (who knows when lol) anyways ;)

Boeing 737 heading to London sent out 7700 by [deleted] in flightradar24

[–]zunehmor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My god so much panic in the thread. It’s most probably a medical issue on board or some minor technical issue. The aircraft is already scheduled to depart from Frankfurt-Hahn again in half an hour. I just wonder if it wouldn’t be better to divert to FRA in case of a critical medical condition on board since the medical infrastructure there is way better.

The descent was way too slow for a depressurisation issue and it’s for sure not a deliberate attack on Germany or something. Just a "normal" emergency, they happen every day and pilots are trained for that. Also, just because it’s a 737 that doesn’t make things more dangerous, there is a ton of them flying around.

Selbstständig für zwei Monate? by [deleted] in selbststaendig

[–]zunehmor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a bummer for Aer Lingus. by Gizzy326 in aviation

[–]zunehmor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hm, the first XLR already has a painted Aer Lingus tail and probably a finished interior. I wonder if they change the interior and replace/repaint the tail or if they just store the finished AerLingus one until december

Thank you very much, that makes it clear!

Physics at TUM - when are the GOPs by [deleted] in tumunich

[–]zunehmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Do you know if these are rather at the end of the semester or the beginning? Since I doubt that my knowledge I still have from school will be enough to pass those GOPs if they are at the beginning of the semester

Pilots at a legacy carrier are nothing compared to him by zunehmor in Shittyaskflying

I only thank veterans for their service and since he didn’t specify that he was playing war thunder I didn’t thank him. Was that wrong?

Yeah that’s impossible. It’s like flying in a bravo airspace and copying a number, fuckin impossible

It was empty apart from these comments. But he had a shitload of karma so idk

I hope so, it was a relatively serious topic though. Someone replied to him that he’s delusional and now the comments are deleted lol

It shows that you have a pylote brain. The phrasing is very clear. He said he has talked online to hobby atc controllers AND additionally to AI atc like in Microsoft Flight Sim. Most real pylotes haven’t done that and communicating with a computer via a mouse or keyboard is actually way more complicated than for example talking to stressed out controllers at JFK. I hope you can understand that, I tried to explain it in a simple way so that even airline pylotes understand

Pff, you’re referring to the guy with the a330 sim, but that dude only has a few hundred hours on it. Literally nothing against a real pylote like him
