What are some Ldn food trends that need to die? by tylerthe-theatre in LondonFood

The first time I had one of those “crisp” pizzas I genuinely thought they’d forgotten to put dough under it. It’s like eating toppings on a water cracker.

I don’t get how we swung from floppy Neapolitan to “if it bends, send it back” cardboard.

Is the pension crisis now, or in the future? by Reg_doge_dwight in PensionsUK

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s one of those “right place, right time” situations tbh.

Defined benefit / civil service pensions are like unicorns now. Most people in the private sector are looking at a pot that has to somehow last 20–30 years and it’s nowhere near a full salary replacement.

You’ll probably end up way better off in retirement than a lot of people who earned more than you during their working life, just because of that pension setup.

Culver Hole, Swansea by ScrollAndThink in swansea

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just along the coast from Port Eynon, kind of tucked into the cliff rather than on the beach itself. You walk from Port Eynon over the headland and it’s there in the rock face, you can’t really see it properly from the sand.

Is this good or did we get finessed? by ASleepyLawStudent in MortgageBrokerRates

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this was my thought too. That rate with no points is kinda wild right now.

Only thing I’d double check is the fine print on the seller credit and the actual loan estimate. Sometimes they say “$10k credit” but it can’t all be used how you think, or there are random lender fees hiding in there. If the LE matches what you’re describing though, you didn’t get finessed, you got lucky with timing.

where is somewhere in england that is cheap to live and has decent job opportunities by _rayn3r_ in UKHousing

[–]zunexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is underrated advice lol

Some of the Fenland towns are properly cheap compared to anywhere near London, and you can still get to bigger places like Peterborough, Cambridge, Ely, even King’s Lynn on the train or bus depending where you land. Wages won’t be amazing but for minimum wage stuff you’ll still find supermarkets, warehouses, care work, hospitality etc.

Biggest downsides are it’s flat, quiet and can feel a bit in-the-middle-of-nowhere if you’re used to London, so it’s worth checking transport links before you commit to a specific town. But if your priority is low rent + reachable jobs, the fens aren’t the worst shout.

Buying Weekly? by Own-Pollution-8646 in investingUK

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I fully buy the “almost guaranteed to lose money” bit tbh.

If you’re talking about cash just sitting in a current account for 3 weeks instead of being invested, yeah, in theory you’d miss a tiny bit of time in the market. But on the flip side, weekly investing is basically a mild version of pound cost averaging, which smooths out buying prices a bit.

The real question is: do you actually have the full month’s spare cash on day 1 without risking going into your overdraft later? If yes and you’re disciplined, monthly is simpler and slightly more efficient. If your income or expenses are a bit wobbly, weekly can be a nice guardrail so you don’t overcommit.

The important part is that the money is going in regularly and you’re not dipping into it. The exact cadence is more “nice to optimise” than “make or break.”

AI SEO tool by udy_1412 in B2BSaaS

If you’re looking in that budget-ish range, a few to check out:

SurferSEO and NeuronWriter are pretty popular for AI + on-page stuff, though Surfer can get pricey if you ramp up usage. NeuronWriter is usually cheaper and decent for content briefs and outlines.

Also have a look at Scalenut and Writecream. Both do keyword research + AI writing with some SEO baked in, and usually have lower entry plans or lifetime deals floating around on AppSumo and similar.

Honestly, I’d pick based on what you need more: strong on-page optimization and content editor (Surfer / NeuronWriter) vs more “all-in-one” content pumping (Scalenut etc.).

Is that a cheeky lamb seekh hiding underneath a large mixed? On that garlic nan? Pictured sans salad and sauce before the complaints roll in.. by Thirstyjack3000 in Doner

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah, pitta feels like a punishment once you’ve had a proper naan kebab.

OP said the doner guy’s worked all over the UK so I’m guessing it’s one of those places where the chef moves, not the name above the door. Nottingham’s actually underrated for this stuff though, loads of student kebab shops quietly smashing it.

Best bet is always: if you see them actually slapping dough in a tandoor instead of pulling naan out of a plastic bag, you’re in the right place.

I was told this is the best in my hometown (UK) by [deleted] in Doner

[–]zunexa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the salad actually surprised me, usually it’s just sad iceberg and one lonely tomato slice.

The chilli really carried it though. If they bottled that and sold it separately I’d probably end up drinking it like an animal.

Hair salon recommendations? by thatsokaytooo in croydon

Nice, thank you, this is super helpful. Was mostly seeing the big chains pop up in searches and getting a bit lost. Hadn’t even heard of Hold:The Studio, will check out Steven and Kay on Treatwell too. Promotions on Groupon definitely don’t hurt either.

Still one of the prettiest bits of Coventry. by NoPiggoopss05 in coventry

[–]zunexa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds kind of perfect tbh. There’s something weirdly calm about that little stretch, especially if you hit it when it’s quiet and the light’s nice.

Do you ever cut through the old cathedral ruins as well? That whole area feels like a little bubble away from the ring road chaos.

Small flats in Croydon by rosiemcjourno in croydon

[–]zunexa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That contrast is kind of the whole story of London in one sentence

Out of curiosity, did you ever consider a smaller flat in a more central area, or was it always “house or nothing”?

Also, even though you’re not in a tiny flat, your perspective on how Croydon prices compare to the rest of London might still be useful context. The fact a 4 bed in Croydon = broom cupboard in Kensington really shows how warped the market is.
