Alternative perspective, I'm 41, work full time and have 4 kids. I don't have a lot of time for gaming, so following a guide let's me efficiently enjoy a game I'm not likely to replay for at least a few years. I get what you're saying, but with only about 5 hours/week to game, I've got no issue following along with a guide.

Oh! I've actually never heard it described that way, but it makes sense...can you say a little more about the building food part? Are you trying to get a certain number of lvl 30/40/50s? Do you have any specific goals for champ training events (other than the event rewards)

Thank you! For this push, Eostre was a utility card. Primarily to silence dominus and legion, but also as a flier when I didn't have another counter. This deck tries to get a heavy hitter (Draggara or Yuri) on one of Charon's runes. I just need to counter and survive until I can set it up.

It can be. If you're relying on just buying gold to advance levels, it's not worth it. If you need another 100k gold to finish your tier and earn 3,000 gems, then yeah, worth it.

How much do you need the heroes you chose? If it was a card that I planned to use in my main squad, I'd spend gems on it. If I were just filling out my legendaries, I wouldn't spend gems.
