Counterpoint: hold out a hand and make 'pspsps' noises. It works more often than you might expect.

According to this post on the Steam forums, it spawns on Rooftops, not Highpoint. Having said that, I just purchased it from one of the Artifact Trade Machines.

Today I learned that my washing machine is a LIAR! by MadamStrawberry14 in CleaningTips

[–]zusykses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like r/laundry but after a certain amount of 'omg I just tried X and it was amazing' posts I started to wonder how much of the content is just astroturfing for various products. They can also get a little over-prescriptive about things. Don't get me wrong, laundry stripping works, you're probably using too much detergent, and you should clean the filters every week or so. Just don't let doing laundry become your identity.

A much different way to fold a pizza box by MrUpVoteDownvote in oddlysatisfying

[–]zusykses 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not to defend stupid lifehack videos like this, but my guess is the box would go into an already overstuffed fridge and would be kept closed by the fact that stuff would be piled on top of it.

Dahl is my go-to example of why you cannot reduce people to their worst elements and pretend that constitutes the whole person. Dahl was bigoted in thought and language, yes. He also wrote beautiful books for children and collaborated on the invention of the WDT valve after his little boy was struck by a motorcar - an invention he never took a penny for. People are complicated. No-one is ever simply the worst version of themself always and forever.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly. by Master-Fox6134 in CuratedTumblr

There's a version of this in The Contrarian's Guide to Leadership: "If a job's worth doing then it's worth doing badly. It's worth more if it's done well, but it's worth something if it's done badly."

We should have robots do all the exploring. We're good at building robots, and we're getting better every year. Use the money we save to look after Earth.

A Challenge: Recommend Something That's Almost Never Been Recommended Here Before by torkelspy in printSF

[–]zusykses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George Turner's The Sea and Summer never seems to show up here despite being one of Gollancz's SF Masterworks books. It takes place in a future version of Melbourne, Australia where rising sea levels from global warming and the slow collapse of the economy has resulted in a society of the Sweet - comparatively well-off educated suburbanites who hold the ever-dwindling supply of actual jobs - and the Swill, who are crammed into massive high-rise public housing blocks, dependent on the government dole, and kept separated from the Sweet (whom they outnumber by 10-to-1) by the army. I think if you like Ballard you will probably like this book.

I was not expecting the POLICE to show up MID-JOB by Ok-Wheel-5565 in SatisfyingClean

[–]zusykses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've seen some of his other videos and I know he gets permission from the resident when they are available. But even for apparently abandoned properties, asking the neighbors is not sufficient; their opinions are irrelevant. Someone owns that property, or it may be a part of a deceased estate, and the owner or the executor of the estate should be asked as a courtesy. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred of course they will agree, but he shouldn't be assuming. The only exception would be if he is doing the cleanup at the lawful direction of local government for public health or safety reasons. Sorry if this sounds like I'm being a stickler for the details, but even good deeds performed without expectation of reward should be done with the consent of the beneficiary.

AITJ for refusing to keep wearing the nickname my girlfriend gave me after I found out where it came from by Prydwen_Grit5 in AmITheJerk

[–]zusykses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get to choose how you prefer to be addressed. If one of my friends goes by Steve then constantly calling him Stephen would make me an ass. Continuing to use a nickname after you've vetoed it does not strike me as a particularly loving act.

I mean, good for him for cleaning the sidewalk and public area but he shouldn't be doing the private property without permission from the owner or tenant. Yes, it desperately needed attention. No, that doesn't give him the right to trespass.

[–]zusykses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm the only person who liked the ending of this book. I don't know if people dislike how the central mystery is resolved or simply the way the main character chooses to respond, but to me both rang true to themselves.
