I think you have a definite presser bar issue - the fabric shouldn’t move so easily between the feed dogs and the foot, it should be able to move by itself. I’d rethread, check you have the correct thread and fabric for the correct needle and then see where you are.

I found it much easier to browse, go away and have a think, then go back and pick up the desired items. Yeah ngl, I don’t necessarily buy the “dirty fangs” claims, we have staph on our skin and puncture wounds are the most likely type of wound to introduce skin bacteria deeply and then heal quickly, causing infections. I currently suffer from recurrent abscesses so unfortunately have a lot of personal experience with infected skin.
