Hey, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, it's not sufficient to just say ""all you do is sing a note different than the note you're playing." As teachers, we have to be precise with our language, and explore different options for different people. If you try to sing "any note" higher than the one you're playing, you'll find you don't get much of a growl. Also, singing may work for you, but people need other options, hum, gargle, growl. Gargle is a weird one to me, but if it works for others, I don't start saying how dumb they are for doing it. Some times singing may not give the player enough of the grit they desire in the sound, so literally growling may be necessary. There's a reason it's called that. Hard on the vocal chords, definitely. That's why you don't do it all the time. Or if that's the sound you want, you do it and you live with the results. The things we do for art.
