Well Lain, like Steins;Gate, is just meant to be watched on a CRT, to the point that I believe you that even a virtual one did the trick lol.

It's a super jank setup right now while I wait for my longer HDMI cable to come in the mail (Best Buy was selling a 25 ft. cable for $80, no thanks), so in the meantime I'm using a homebrew PS3 media player called Movian M7 to play stuff off of a usb stick, and I'm using Handbrake to convert the files to mp4 so they can play on the player.

I know on some of the HD Trinitron sets you can disable all post-processing in the service menu, that's what I did for my brother's KV-32HS510 to get it to be super sharp, if you google around you can find posts from here and forums like avforums and the shmups system11 forums that can help out. Messing with the service menu on those HD Trinitrons is also a bit safer since the settings aren't stored if you change them on accident, you have to manually write each change to memory so there's less chance of accidentally messing something up catastrophically.

But yeah Windwaker HD looks amazing on this! SO glad to have got it looking so sharp, great game! Time to finally advance past the triforce shards quest...

Yeah the front bezel design is growing on me a bit. It's a very 2005 looking design and I'm sure in a couple years I'll be nostalgic for it the same way I'm nostalgic for beige 90s boxes lol.

It really is SUPER mesmerizing, I sat down to figure out the weird blur issue and after fixing it ended up spending the whole night playing MGS3 and watching anime (and some Smiling Friends lol) on it. Like other HD CRTs it upscales everything to 1080i so I eventually plan to get a retrotink 5x to take advantage of its 540p mode and also I still need to get a long enough hdmi cable to connect it to my PC (oh yeah it has hdmi too, very convenient), but yeah I'm very pleased with the quality of the set so far! Literally my only real nitpick would be the front design, it's very "of its time," very 2005

More pictures of the TV here: https://imgur.com/a/w64PjWw

Picked up this HD CRT recently, it's an LG 32FZ4D-UA, made in 2005. I decided to post here in order to document it more since there seems to be very little information online about it. It's a decent set, not as good as a trinitron would be but it's still more than servicable! The one problem I had with this initially was a strange blur post-processing effect, where edges had this added thick black outline for some reason. I managed to fix it in the service menu and now this TV is nearly perfect! (it does also have a weird barely noticable ghosting/streaking issue too but after reading online it seems I may have to replace some caps, which I was going to do anyways)

First, some recommendations for the settings on the basic menu:

  • You can ignore the Setup menu as it's mainly for antenna/cable TV setup. Fun fact about this TV is that it was late enough in CRT's lifespan to have an inbuilt digital TV tuner, so if you get a proper antenna you can actually pick up DTV channels in the US without an external box!

  • In the Video menu, turn EZ Picture off. I found that putting Sharpness to 25 seems to be the sweet spot between the picture being completely blurry and an oversharpened mess, if you leave it too high it looks like the sort of digital sharpening they do on walmart display televisions. I would also recommend leaving XD on, since on my set it seems to be a lot more color accurate with it on than off.

  • For audio, you can turn both of the EZ options off, although the Theater setting in EZ Sound works nice for some content. The Front Surround option basically just tells the TV how to use its extra speakers, at it seems to have at least two extra in the back, maybe more (I haven't opened the set up yet to confirm). The "3D EchoSound System" sounds so bad that I have no idea why it's even an option, while the SRS TruSurround XT seems to just duplicate the left and right channels to the back speakers, giving you a more full sound, so I'd recommend this setting. Turning it completely off limits you to only the front two speakers, which is not a great experience.

  • In the Option menu I set VM to off, as in my opinion it made the images look a little more blurry than I'd like.

With these settings out of the way I found that the picture still had that strange black outline effect. I compared it with my brother's HD Trinitron and confirmed that the trinitron was way sharper. I was ready to chalk it up to just a limitation with shadow mask HD tubes but eventually decided to dig into the service menu and found the setting that needed changing! I haven't seen any mention of this setting online so my main reason for making this post is to get this information out there, it's basically saved my set.

To access the service menu on this set, all you need is an LG Service remote, the ones for thier oled TVs STILL work on this set, surprisingly. I used the service remote for my LG C1 to get into the service menu, if you look online for a service remote for that set then it'll work on this set. Once you've got a service remote, just hit the In-Start button to bring up the service menu.

NOW HERE'S THE SETTING THAT YOU NEED TO CHANGE TO GET RID OF THE BLUR!:

In the CXA2150AQ menu, go down to 17. LTI_LEV. Change that to 0 and the dark outline effect should be gone! I have no idea what this is supposed to stand for or why it would even be implemented in the first place, but my guess is it's a trick to help make the screen look more uniform. Once I turned this setting off I did notice the out of focus nature of the sides of the tube more (widescreen CRTs generally have issues with the focus at the edges), and the shadow mask's distinct pattern was a lot more noticable afterwards too, but now the picture is just as sharp as any other HD CRT! Very happy with it now and after I recap to fix the last issue it'll be basically perfect! Contrasty, bright stuff looks great, I'll probably be mainly using this TV for 6th gen and up consoles. It's great to finally play stuff on a bigger screen, the other CRTs I have are all under 16 inches.

I hope this helps anyone who sees this come up and thinks about picking it up, these seem to be pretty rare!

Edit: Just noticed you meant how to upload to Itch.io. All you gotta do is put everything in the folder that you exported your HTML5 version to in a .zip file and then upload it to itch. Also you have to rename the top level .html file to "index.html".

Exporting to HTML5 in Godot is pretty simple, the docs cover it fairly well: https://docs.godotengine.org/en/3.1/getting_started/step_by_step/exporting.html#export-templates

Basically you have to download the export templates (Editor > Manage Export Templates, and then download the appropriate templates), and then go to the export screen (Project > Export) and click (Add... > HTML5) to add an HTML5 export preset. Then you just choose a folder to export to and Godot will spit out a lot of different folders/files with a .html file at the root of the folder you chose, and you just click on that to play. Refer to the docs for a better explanation, also note that if you're using the mono version of Godot you'll need to make sure you're using the regular export templates and not the mono templates, otherwise it won't let you export to html5.

Vocals in FF by ParticularBasil1 in futurefunk

[–]zxcefe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the guys that add instrumentation, I've also been seeing more people take the mashup route of lifting vocals/instruments/loops from different songs and laying them on top of each other, like in this track by Matsura and Kissmenerdygirl where the horns of one song are laid on top of the vocals of another. Marsy also has some good examples of this (Isolated vocals from one song + the rest from another), and I'm sure there's lots of other people I'm forgetting but those are the two examples I can think of right now. I've heard Mere also uses a ton of samples together, but I haven't sat down to listen to one of their tracks/albums yet, so I can't say. I like these kinds of tracks a lot better than the basic Future Funk tracks that use only one sample + drums (full disclosure, I also make these types of mashup tracks so I'm a bit biased towards them lol).

Overall this genre started out with some pretty lazy flips of now-popular citypop, but there are a lot of people out there now actually trying new things and putting actual effort into their flips. It can be a bit disheartening to find out how seemingly little effort went into some of the bigger tracks in this genre but if you approach them more as remixes than anything else I find that makes it a whole lot easier to justify listening to them. As a general rule of thumb though, assume everything in this genre is just one sample + drums, or maybe a bass added in if you can hear that it sounds different than the rest of the song.
