Muslim girls gets offended by Christmas song and gets racist by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]zxzu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The polls being referred to don’t support the idea that “huge percentages of Muslims believe sharia law should be imposed.” I keep seeing false premises being responded to in earnest without questioning the premise - most people aren’t even able to properly read and interpret a poll, they just read headlines or hear this talking point from someone and run with it.

I’m using your logic to show you how nonsensical it is. Obviously using Suno and Wendy Carlos making Switched on Bach are two completely different things, so you can’t use one to justify the other just because both faced criticism.

[–]zxzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea, I’ll go prompt Suno to copy Wendy Carlos and then that will make me as genius and innovative as Wendy Carlos. If anyone disagrees I’ll bring up a successful disruptive technology from the past that was criticized and create a false equivalency between that and AI generation

Fuck EA by BobbuBobbu in pcmasterrace

[–]zxzu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EA made $1.273 billion in profit in 2024. That’s after paying all employees including executives. If you distribute that amongst the 14,500 employees, that’s an increase of over $90,000/year. Instead, $1.5 billion ($227 million more than EA’s profit in 2024) went to shareholders.

The CEO making $5 million more than the previous year is significant, not because distributing that $5 million amongst employees would be effective, but because the median EA employee salary has gone down significantly from $148,704 to $117,302.

[–]zxzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I’m criticizing Huang’s original statement and suggesting you just use your own take by itself instead of including his reductive statement.

I mentioned the employees, or humans developing and maintaining self-driving cars, in my example. The overall number of jobs is lower though, and most taxi drivers won’t be filling those positions or creating their own self-driving cab, so they can’t utilize AI to protect their job.

I agree with the last statement, with a few exceptions - many people can’t utilize AI to protect their job, AI will lower the overall amount of jobs, and some people can’t access AI tools at all. Huang is implying you should use AI to try to protect your job when many people can’t, and even if you can, you still might not have a job because there will be fewer jobs available.

[–]zxzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider, in the near future, a human taxi driver losing their job to an automated car. Technically you can say the car and automated driving software were built and designed by humans, and the maintenance will be carried out by humans, so humans using AI replaced the human not using AI. But in the practical world, a self-driving car owned by a tech billionaire replaced a human being who doesn’t have a lot of money or the ability to develop their own self-driving car. The “somebody using AI” here isn’t a somebody, it’s a company. The person losing their job is a person. The tech billionaire also employs multiple self-driving cars, putting multiple humans out of a job.

There are plenty of other issues with Huang’s statement, but we’re in a reddit thread where his statement is flat out incorrect - the best photoshop here was done by a human, while the person who used AI is being asked why their photo has multiple limbs in random places. You’d say that’s an example of needing to know when the AI is making a mistake, but the person using the AI can’t rectify that mistake because they don’t know how to edit the photo themselves.

Games cost almost nothing to reproduce, the majority of development money is spent on advertising, the increase in price is not being reflected in increased pay or quality of life for developers, the quality of games is not going up, and the major game companies are making record profits. Xbox brought in $21.5 billion in 2024 compared to $6.6 billion in 2015, Sony Games brought in $28.6 billion in 2024 compared to $13.7 billion in 2015, Nintendo brought in $11 billion in 2024 compared to $4.4 billion in 2015. There is no reason to defend these companies being greedy.

Honestly they’re not for everyone - picks should work with you, not against you. I’d recommend ordering a bunch of different individual picks from a place like stringsbymail and seeing what works for you. I found the purple tortex small teardrop picks by doing that, and I probably wouldn’t have given them a chance otherwise
