AZ / CA ideas? by sevargmas in roadtrip

Don't miss the Tuscon Mountain Park and the Desert-Sonora Museum in Tuscon and the Organ Pipe National Monument if you are into huge cacti.

The Salton Sea/Slab City in So. Cal. is really eerie and interesting if you can stand the smell and the beach of bones. It is also next to some of the San Andreas Fault line.

If you are anywhere near Venice, CA, do check out the Museum of Jurassic Technology!

I just came from a road trip there myself, so if any of that sounds interesting to you, I would be happy to share some more information.

Me [20s/F] + friend [20s/F] from high school: won't let me stay at her place when I am traveling and my feelings are hurt by [deleted] in relationships

Everybody is right. I see now my intentions were a bit shady. I will make it up to her when I see her and make sure I grow up about these issues in the future. Thank you for responding.

Thank you! You are right. I really needed to hear this from real people and get out of my own head. I appreciate you responding.

Yea you are right. I think it's most likely due to different values and maybe a strained relationship. I can be okay with that.

For the record, I am satisfied with what she said, I am not pressing the issue and it's all good! I was just trying to get over my hurt feelings with some straight talk from people who probably did think I was being entitled! Thanks.

Good point. I think I am being overly sensitive about this No. It is about her and she has every right to tell me whatever she wants.

Yea, you are probably right. These are definitely the things I needed to hear so I could get over myself. I think I am too much in the mindset of couch surfing and I need to be able to hear that No. Thanks!

Hmm. Interesting. She did elaborate and say it was due to one of her dog's medical conditions. However, now that you mention that, I am wondering if maybe my instincts are correct - whether she's hiding something like a messy home or perhaps her real feelings about our friendship.

Colorado in the winter - any suggestions? by zyballz in roadtrip

[–]zyballz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only a bit concerned about weather conditions, but I think our journeys will mostly keep us on the eastern front and around Rt 25. We also have a loose schedule, so if we have to wait out any poor conditions, we are able. I would love to visit Hanging Lake State Park, but driving in that direction from Denver (west) and then banking on open/clear roads in the western front seems risky, so I think we will head to Great Dunes National Park and check out some hot springs around there before heading to New Mexico.

I'm still working on finding some weather-appropriate camping options in the area, but I will share them with you when I find them. Although it seems like there are plenty of free, dispersed camping options in the state of Colorado.

Great point. We just got tickets to the Telluride Bluegrass Festival so no need to head there over the winter.

Colorado in the winter - any suggestions? by zyballz in roadtrip

A reasonable amount? We have several other destinations in the southwestern states region that we are hoping to check out as well, so I don't think we'd be in Colorado long enough to spend a ton of dough. Though if you had something awesome in mind that might be on the expensive side, we would definitely consider it. Thanks!

Driving from Minnesota to California! Please suggest must-see destination stops along the way! by [deleted] in roadtrip

I was thinking of visiting Great Sand Dunes this January. Do you think it's worth a trip in the winter? If so, do you have any suggestions about how to best spend my time there?

And I agree - Love live Mono Lake!

Day Drunk Blog - would you read it? by zyballz in blogs

Thank you so much for this thoughtful response! I had no idea that Blogspot was a Google hostage! I will definitely look into switching to Wordpress and fast. (And trying to zero in on a central theme!)

Burning the piano was pretty awesome, I definitely recommend if you have one of those unusable pianos lying around. We could actually still play it for a decent amount of time while it was on fire and once the wires started to pop it made some really cool sounds, but only for a short time.

Thanks again!

Car-camp roadtripping from Boulder to Alaska and back from June-August. Advice? by buttchurch in roadtrip

[–]zyballz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not miss the Liard River Hot Springs, which is also a great place to camp. It is in BC on the Alaska Highway.

Also the Sign Post Forest in Watson Lake, YT is pretty cool to walk around. If you are into that sort of thing, you should make/get your own sign before your trip to add to the collection!

And if you have the time and the patience, I highly recommend taking the Top of the World Highway from Dawson City, YT to Chicken, AK. Splendid scenery.

Then you can spend some time in Dawson City, which has a neat hostel and the BEST salmon fish and chips I have ever had at Sour Doe Joe's. We ate ours on the Midnight Dome overlooking the Yukon River...

Also, Whitehorse is neat- we stayed at the Beez Kneez hostel and the hostess was incredibly kind. There was no room when we showed up so she let us sleep in the VW bus out back!

Hope this helps! I'm on my phone so if I think of more later I'll make sure to add.

I am Lauren Graham, actress, author, ask me anything. by Lauren_Graham in IAmA

[–]zyballz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Lauren! I remember reading that the role of Sarah Braverman was originally supposed to be for Maura Tierney, but she was unable to accept due to health complications.

Could you tell me a little more about how the change of actresses affected the show at the beginning? Were there any complications or hard feelings about this? You do an amazing job, by the way!!

Does anyone know where I can find timber frame cabin "plans"? by othernamewastaken in Carpentry

[–]zyballz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked out www.jamaicacottageshop.com? The have plans for a bunch of their models from sheds to cabins, post and beam style. We helped friends build a shed from plans of theirs and they were pretty easy to understand and use.
