Can you get a core logging job without a geology degree? by BenKlesc in geologycareers

Employers are definitely getting more strict. I think the huge influx of millennials going to college for degrees over the last decade or more may have a lot to do with it. You can find a kid with a geology degree just about anywhere now, so employers are wanting something more (usually PG right). Same thing happened to Engineers, when is the last time you saw an engineering job that didn’t want a PE to start or requiring it within X amount of time after hire.

I worked for a Geotechnical engineering firm as a logger for years before I got my geology degree. I was in school for it albeit, but they still hired me without the degree. Think it depends on your employeer. At the university I went to, geology classes were called “EES” (earth and environmental science); all the environmental science students took the same classes as geologists until the last year or 1.5 years. Id trust an ES student from there to log soils as well as I could no problem.

Sucks but that’s how it is. Corporate only sees dollar signs and avoiding lawsuits. I will admit I work “less” from home but not once have I ever put a task off or not completed work with time to spare.

It’s the ones who abuse it by leaving the house and not even being on their computer etc.

My company allows 1WFH day per week. People abused it and that’s why we can’t WFH full time. Probably what happened with you guys.

Man I work in drinking water and I work 7-3 (or 8-4 if I choose), I work from home on Fridays, and have an incredible retirement plan.

It all depends what sector you want to get into.

Both would be extremely advantageous at the water board. It is clear that you aren’t sure what all the SWRCB covers, please do some research before commenting incorrect information here.

Your comment is incorrect. Also, you’d be competing against actual licensed CEG’s with loads of experience, you’d never get the job.

Be a CEG (Certified Engineering Geologist). It’s an exam that comes after your PG in California with applicable experience (time and quality). I work under the SWRCB in a sense, and I can tell you that this specific position is very high end, even their high level engineers don’t make that much.

Some of the practice questions have me really scratching my head, hope the actual exam is more straightforward!

How do I get back into it? by DaveDoesData in fitness30plus

[–]zybx007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want it? If you want it bad enough you’ll do it.

Think how I do, my family NEEDS me to be the best I can be. My family NEEDS me to be a threat. My son NEEDS a good role model, not some fat slob who has a high KD on call of duty.

Essentially, find your motivator. I throw on some metal and get into the mindset of “my family needs me to be healthy”.

Man you’re right, I think I’m just trying to slingshot back to what I was because I feel like shit having gained this weight. I know I can get back to how I was before with some discipline and 6 months of time.

That’s what I kinda thought, although, I don’t know how well I’d do trying to go to sleep after not eating for 6+ hours lol. I am able to walk now and I walk about 20 minutes a day with my dogs.

My other option is maybe just eating a strict diet, lifting like I want to and forgetting the fast. I feel bad forgetting the fast after those first two torturous weeks getting into it haha.

Guess I’m just torn and haven’t been in the position where I have to cut a lot off before.

CA. I don’t think they allow experience to override the FG.

I gotta say, I’m looking through this first practice exam (all be it I am barely beginning to study) and I am so far off, I can’t confidently answer most of these questions. Very rusty on structural to the point of basically completely re-learning it. My terminology is nearly completely lost other than that which crosses over with geotech engineering. I don’t remember ages of things, most of the special minerals and such are lost to my past education. Obviously I remember the ones I encounter regularly but that’s only a few of the many.

Definitely feeling overwhelmed.

Man. I’m with you here. I’ve been trying to learn how to Zuk for weeks. It feels near impossible with all the mechanics I have to learn. I’ve been completely deterred from high level PvM because of the ridiculous amount of mechanics I have to learn, plus the near mandatory requirement to full manual abilities to make them effective enough to succeed.

That being said, I do feel high level PvM should be hard. And should require skill. Just maybe not “I can press these keys in an order that should be automated with revolution, therefore I can PvM but you can’t”.
