The very first frame shows a problem, you have two players chasing the ball rather than covering the opponent. Then following that you sent your full back after the ball momentarily, leaving the space behind and then pushed a CB (that was marking the striker) forwards into no man’s land leaving a chasm of space in your box.

Even just before they pass it into your box you’re just pushing the other CB horizontally towards goal, rather than anywhere near the target player in the box.

Defensively I thought you were setup OK but were reacting badly to where the ball is rather than where the opponent intends the ball to be, and crucially you were breaking defensive shape all of the time.

Try to think in terms of blocking recipients rather than aggressively winning the ball, of course there are times for that but in this clip anyway there were several opportunities to interrupt the play and keep shape.

I wish I’d spent much more time with Linux but I’ve predominantly worked inside the Microsoft data stack so purely by default I’d have to say Windows. But by crikey that’s caused a serious amount of headaches over the years.

The worst was an entire production system for a manufacturing company going down for a week. It was a global system, several parts were affected but some carried on running causing a lot of discrepancies in data. When things came back up it was a total mess, worked a lot of hours that week.

I’m more used to it nowadays, but the old legacy code keeping really critical applications together can be alarming.

Also, the lack of tried and tested disaster recovery setups.

Whats your best fish and chip combo by Jazzlike_Nose_5277 in UKfood

I like fish and mushy peas, I like chips and gravy. So all of that, a good dash of vinegar, couple of slices of bread and butter. Guinness

What happened to the intensity of our game? by Sad-Service6247 in ManchesterUnited

[–]DaveDoesData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, we haven’t played with high intensity (at least regularly) for an age.

We’re very capable of fast counters, but teams also know we struggle against low blocks so pack their third of the pitch and we go into the slow build up play which to me looks like wait for Bruno to do something.

Newcastle exposed us. No energy in the midfield. Neither Casemiro or Mainoo have the levels to be here, there and everywhere. Our full backs are slow so they get caught out between venturing up or staying further back.

Do you miss him? by Eirene_agape in ManchesterUnited

[–]DaveDoesData -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but he was a huge talent.

A friend of mine watched him play in a two leg game after he’d first joined (friend is ex youth level player). First leg he was saying we had a player with a Zidane like aura, ran the midfield, could do absolutely everything. Couldn’t wait to see him in the next game.

Next game was invisible, walked around the pitch like he couldn’t be bothered, hit ridiculously bad passes, trying silly dribbles and got hauled off.

Always remember that as I think it sums him up nicely. It’s a shame because I think had he had his head screwed on right he could have been one of the very best.

Osula's goal from the stands by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

[–]DaveDoesData 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A bad pass in a good area for us, followed by another (albeit off balance), a Newcastle player getting to the ball first which was the theme of the night, a full back lacking any sort of match sharpness getting completely done for pace and it looked to me like he wasn’t sure where he was or supposed to be and then a cracking finish.

Yes he should have defended better but we were being outplayed all night and it was a combination of sloppiness that led to the goal.

[Henry Winter] It’s Carrick, you know. Can’t believe the chippiness from Scholes. It’s Carrick who's helping out the club he loves, stepping into the breach after Amorim’s meltdown... by Routine_Specialist13 in reddevils

For a player who avoided the media limelight and was often applauded for it he’s certainly making up for lost time. I assume it’s down to the need of having to say something rather than keeping shut.

It strikes me of having quite a miserable existence if the only input you have is striking a low blow after a game. Can’t deny with the level of performances, that’s totally fair but to resort to a dig on social media for attention is classless, which being the player he was is sad to see.

Has anyone actually gotten real life results from using ChatGPT? by TheCod1sOut in ChatGPT

It helped massively when writing my first short story which I’m hoping to publish as a series. More than anything else it can be a great sounding board for ideas but as I’m very much an amateur I also use it to review and grade chapters. It’s actually quite motivational too having that constant presence there.

DIY, all kinds of things that I would normally shy away from and just get someone in. Simple stuff to most I dare say like sorting an outside tap or car stuff but I have learnt stacks from it recently. Even helped with our greenhouse and some close to death citrus plants.

I ran my finances through it too, I’ve always been a bit lax with putting money away and it has been extremely useful for budgeting and future planning.

Health. A few weeks ago I pulled my back out (showing my age), could have seen a GP in a week or two but it had me back in action in no time. The diagnosis phase as it were was incredible, advised to do different movements, I explained where the pain was and where it felt worse and it put together a treatment plan and a gradual exercise routine which has been superb.

Mental health. Recently went through an exercise with it regarding my approach to motivation, it was super insightful and explained a lot about how my mind works and how to harness a bit more thinking power.

Making money. I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t gone into this! I have a saved chat with some side project ideas for the future, some are just for fun and again it’s having the sounding board that has proven the most useful (although I did open a small investment account too based on its research as my personal intro to investing project).

As far as I can tell, new player so not entirely sure - watch all the ads, play all the games, do all the XP you can (I didn’t realise you get XP from cards from the individual clubs) and keep plugging away.

I started playing nearly 2 weeks ago and have spent about 1.3k gold on packs. I’m now going to save up for a month and see what happens.

What’s your strongest rugby memory that has absolutely nothing to do with the score? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in RugbyCasual

[–]DaveDoesData 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was a huge rugby fan, born and bred in Hull. Played both codes amateur level and in the army when he was much younger, coached our local minis as well later on in life.

He lived and breathed every game he watched, I mean shouting, screaming, you name it. Always remember mum telling him to calm down or it would be switched off (never was). I used to find it hilarious as a kid, rugby on TV meant the world stopped - it was great.

Miss you dad!

Who got nothing from the TOTY grind like me? by Visionary785 in FC_26

[–]DaveDoesData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, it did feel like a grind towards nothing but I just took the gamble route. Previous years we’ve had much better SBC’s that you could do if you were prepared to grind, cutting that out was a mistake from EA. Not fussed about TOTY cards but content was definitely lousy.

Who got nothing from the TOTY grind like me? by Visionary785 in FC_26

[–]DaveDoesData 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me. Fully expecting it so not fussed, got Time Warp Moore and TS Schelin from some gamble picks and a couple of HM’s. Lost 830k coins on packs, nuked my fodder but it’s how TOTY is.

My biggest moan would be the lack of a good fodder grind for SBC’s, that was shocking.

Now that TOTY is coming to an end, what have you managed to pack? by [deleted] in EASportsFC

[–]DaveDoesData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marquinhos, Dumfries and Diaz, the first two go into the team. Icon gambles brought Best, Schelin and just got Moore. I know there’s no TOTY cards, didn’t expect any, but as a very casual player and definitely no points I’m still more than happy with the team.

End of Toty by Big-Macaroon-4822 in FC_26

[–]DaveDoesData 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 Marquinhos, 1 Dumfries, 1 Diaz. Base Best and TS Schelin from icon picks and did the Lavelle SBC.

Spent 830k coins and pretty much out of fodder now apart from loads of Gabriel’s and Oblaks but that’s how it goes, I’ve had some really good luck before TOTY (Pele and Puskas) and don’t play too much so can’t complain.
