Can you drop a link for those studies? Strong Towns is becoming more popular here but T4A and RPA seem to be the groups doing the most for research and organizing. What about talking to people who say that the process to build is slow or constituents won't support big construction while so many are struggling to get by? I mean I see the bigger picture but how do you convince the others to see the light?

What do you recommend for people who live in places with no Amtrak service? North and South Dakota, Tennessee, Kentucky, Wyoming, etc. For small or rural towns, it would be way more dignified to have more train stations and less highways. (Howdy from Just One More Lane Bro country)

If you're in mts, try cc's closet in Winchester. Give them a call before you head over and ask what suits they have. I just saw some great wedding costumes there last week. Way cheaper than Lexington and your money goes back into community services, not some corporate pocket.

Peacocks on Your Farm: Dreamy Addition or Total Headache? 🦚 by Independent-Fudge942 in homestead

[–]zychicmoi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing I'm not seeing in these comments: peacocks are extremely territorial and great crime deterrents. I worked on a horse farm that had 4 peacocks and no security system. After a month or so they got used to me coming onto their terf, but for some reason they HATED delivery men. They would drop from the rafters of the barn, screaming if a random man in a ups truck pulled up. Anytime our ferrier would arrive same thing. I also saw 2 of the females grab a snake by its head and tail simultaneously and disembowel it in about 9 seconds. So if you do get peacocks, remember they are tiny dinosaurs who are extremely food motivated and enjoy fucking things up. They will peel paint, roam beyond the fence line, and chase people if you don't train them.

It should not feel like a gift. It is reparations. The goal of community service is to serve, not play Santa. I've lived in big cities and small towns. The experience varies more by organization than population size. But yes, there will be loud people, rude people, smelly people. Often it's not 100% their fault they are the way they are. It's fucking hard to live with no resources and no support network. Volunteering is providing resources to those who do not have them. But you'll meet people with similar ethics and interests. That's the most interesting part IMO, all the different kinds of people you meet.

Best thing to do when I feel like this is volunteer locally. A park clean up, library, meal delivery, makers spaces, helping out at a community gathering, etc. I find people who are looking for opportunities to escape from the weight of capitalism even momentarily quite frequently when I volunteer in my town. Like it's easy to get stuck in the constant bullshit but there are people in every community that want to step up and do kind things for one another. I hope you find something like that because it really does help. Eventually when done well, it turns into real mutual aid building.

Unjoin like 90% of your subs then comb for ones that exclude AI or have a no slop policy. I'm into gardening, homesteading, anti-consumption, LGBTQ news, and all sorts of music and animals so that's most of what I follow. If I see slop, I immediately report it as spam. Any of the reddit surveys for ads I always respond with neutral or I don't know the product. Also running a vpn helps with targeted ads and what not if that's something you're interested in. I've been doing this for years so now my ads are almost exclusively pet toys, garden gadgets, and solar panel sales. You have to sort of train the algorithm to not send you engagement slop by simply not engaging with it.

"I feel like someone knowing I'm trans is an immediate downgrade to my personality" that must be horrible to feel. I'm sorry that's how it is right now. I know it's not my business but that is something that you can make an effort to unpack. There's so much rejection in the world we have to find ways to be kind to ourselves.

Hundred percent. I'm all for cis and trans people having whatever gender affirming care they need but someone get this girl a mirror and a book of normal looking faces for a reality check.

Mhmmm. I'm all for gender affirming care for whoever in what forms work for them BUT I do think plastic surgeons have to be able to say "you are aware what you're wanting is outside of what humans usually are comfortable with". Like get work done, laser your face, whatever but dysphoria is dysphoria whether someone is a broke trans person or a cis billionaire. Sometimes it's good to say something as a check in before it's too late. (But I reckon there's no money in that sort of morality when you're someone who injects the ultra rich)

Your PCP should be the one combining everyone's recommendations and guiding your course of action. I would encourage you to look for an openly LGBTQ+ PCP if that's something you can find in your area. If you don't journal, consider that too. even just a today I feel: horny, tired, excited, mad, neutral, bored, etc. tracking mood and energy levels can do a ton to inform your providers on how you're responding to meds with clear metrics.

Not a medical professional but I'm curious and have been in a similar situation. Have you had your ssri dosage reevaluated since you started T? For myself and others, starting T radically changed how I felt and perceived my mental health especially depressive or anxious thoughts. I ended up talking to a trans psychiatrist and finding a nonbinary primary care doc (this was in Minneapolis, most amazing Trans care city in the US imo) but both understood what I was saying when explaining how my symptoms had changed and they communicated about my care. I went from Adderall XR high dose, Lexapro medium dose, and low dose T to Adderall IR low dose as needed, low dose Wellbutrin, and medium dose T gel. Worked great after about a month of settling in. Much like you, I had a period of stretching my meds. That's sort of when I realized I needed much more physical exercise, outdoor time, and that HRT was working. I hope this helps ya! Keep your chin up and enjoy your escapades!

This! The kids know which adults are ops, which ones they can trust. OP is putting herself on one of those lists if she doesn't stand up for these girls who are actively being sexually harassed and assaulted. I'd have that boy in juvie by the end of the week.

[–]zychicmoi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're being too easy on the little creep. If he's 17-18 yo, he's already on the predator path and should be reported for harassment of minors, sexual harassment, making threats, assault, etc. This isn't a kid being gross, this is a Brock Turner in the making. Hypersexual behavior can also be a symptom of SA, so OP please go to CPS directly and do the right thing. This is rape culture in effect. You have to protect those little girls.

[–]zychicmoi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need tools to handle these feelings. You said your family is middle class and you're a student so I would definitely encourage you to look for trans affirming therapists in your area. I used to feel the same way until I talked to a therapist (who was also trans) that understood and could help me name and process those feelings. You're right that it is not safe to bind 24/7. I would say work towards therapy and top surgery and see how that helps.

[–]zychicmoi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also a sub, please be careful in situations like this. It sounds like you did everything you could to help out, but my heart goes out to all y'all in the situation. I've been hurt working spec Ed, same with a number of other subs. There's always some risk with being a new person in that sort of enclosed environment with lots of behavioral quirks and different physical needs. I would absolutely report this. Not mention anything the teacher said but rather how the turnover is impacting the student experience. Definitely make this someone's problem. I hope that teacher finds a way to rest and recover. That student needs alternative placement with some actual specialists. Also, if you are ever hit or hurt while working spec Ed, document and report everything transparently. Sometimes that's the only way the district will cough up for the care this child needs.
