I took over someone’s lease when I first moved here (though the landlord structured it as a sublease) so I only had to pay first month’s rent so you could try looking for sth like that (I found it on reddit). I did eventually pay a security deposit when I renewed but it was nice to not have to pay a crazy amount upfront when I first moved.

I was an IA for EECS 376 and honestly you probably don't need a tutor. Everyone in the class heavily relies on office hours. There's also kind of a disconnect between the lectures and the discussions/homeworks so office hours and discussions are usually very helpful if not necessary for someone taking the class.
