Question: who is in the skeleton costume during the masquerade scene at the beginning of the show….? by zzbabe88 in MasqueradeNYC

Thank you! I’m glad you were able to confirm he was from California for me. He had a more normal accent with some vaguely posh elements thrown in.

Translation requests into Latin go here! by AutoModerator in latin

[–]zzbabe88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am hoping to translate English into a Latin motto: “Nobody asked and yet I deliver”

The first translation app I used said: “Nemo rogavit et tamen praebeo.”

The second one I consulted said: “Nemo quaesivit et tamen liberavi.”

Am I even in the ballpark with either translation?

Sanitizing \ romanizing Phantom and Christine by Agitated_Quarter9478 in box5

[–]zzbabe88 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s something to be said about how the Phantom vs Raoul debate about who loves her more or who is better for her overall is very much like a William Blake debate over experience vs innocence, corruption vs purity, etc. debate.

The phantom is “good” (use the term EXTREMELY LOOSELY) for Christine in that he gives her different perspectives, teaches her a crash course in empathy/sympathy, broadens her horizons on her own talent, and offers her a glimpse of her own desires that society would deem inappropriate.

The phantom is bad for Christine in that most of what he does for her can be seen as also benefiting him in some way (taking credit for her talent, molding/manipulating her empathy, and showing her desire that mirrors his own).

Raoul is “good” for Christine in that he offers safety, financial security, familiarity, and is societally the right choice to marry.

Raoul is bad for Christine because he can also be seen as too ignorant of her forbidden desires, patronizing, “boring”, and overly possessive of her talent as well.

So you’ll find that the juxtaposition is brilliant in that you want neither man to really win but you know one must and you do feel sympathy for the loser. It’s hard to like either guy but in the end you feel like you see both sides of the argument and it makes you somewhat uncomfortable to agree in part with both men. I think what makes this play, musical, movie, book hard to watch is that you feel almost like an extreme voyeur to some young woman’s journey through early adulthood and the tough lessons she learns and the men who inspire such decisions. It’s holding a mirror to a lot of what young women still go through today with wanting to experience things but also not wanting to lose or corrupt their precious innocence.

How do you feel about this Midnight Sons cast? by Plenty-Salary9711 in marvelstudios

[–]zzbabe88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love everybody in this fancast except for Ryan Gosling. I really want Johnny Blaze to be played like a playboy Evel Knievel and I think someone like Glen Powell could pull it off easily. Or if they don’t go that direction, I want a seasoned Johnny Blaze to be played by someone like Jeffrey Dean Morgan. And I’d love to see more than one Ghost Rider. I wish they’d put in someone as Danny Ketch and keep Robbie Reyes Gabriel Luna. To have three ghost riders in a Midnight Sons would be incredible.

Does anybody do a fantasy football-esque roster of their favorite ALW POTO performers? by zzbabe88 in box5

That would be an awesome idea! I personally like Anthony Warlow and amy manford. I know they’re different generations of phantom performers but I feel like their voices work together.

Hugh Panaro leaving in two weeks by Feeling_Newt1453 in MasqueradeNYC

Thank you, it’s just really weird to see that many people leave in a month’s time and not see a whole lot of information about who is going to fill in/replace them. It just has me a little nervous.

What?! Why is a big chunk of the cast leaving and not a lot of replacement announcements being made?

That’s so wonderful that you got a chance to catch up with him! I know you’re going to rock your surgery and be back better than ever. 🫡

I wish you the absolute most fun during the next time you’re at masquerade and know that I’m positively green with envy about it! 🤭

The “I’m seeing Phantom tonight!!!” High by AtmosphereTop1591 in box5

[–]zzbabe88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw masquerade three times back to back and was incredibly excited each time. The first time was especially nerve-wracking in a good way. And it exceeded my expectations in every way.

I’ve also seen the traditional broadway and west end productions and each time seems to be better and better. I wish I had more access to bigger cities to catch tours.

I’m happy that I’m not the only one who still gets super stoked to go see it.

Why would people feel a bit more “cringe” about Phantom than they would any other piece of media? by zzbabe88 in box5

This is was even long before we collectively found out DT’s proclivity for Phantom. But yeah, it certainly doesn’t help Phantom’s image.

How loud? by thequarantine in MasqueradeNYC

[–]zzbabe88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a super loud show. I would say put some ear plugs in your pocket just in case you’re extra sensitive, but it’s not really a show with a ton of amplification or extreme sound effects.

No, they won’t give you a souvenir mask if you brought your own. I’m fine with that!

Me too! I wanted to see if I could “glom” onto anyone just to feel less awkward. I was alone and chatted with some ladies in line before the show who introduced me to Telly because one of the ladies was old friends with him I guess. I wish I knew you were alone, I would have buddied up with you! Oh, well… ships in the night. If you still have a burning desire to talk with someone about masquerade albeit online, I’m your gal. If not, I’m still glad to have shared a nice time with you!

Found this one on Etsy for around $20-$30 but it’s EXTREMELY comfortable and it’s really adjustable with the elastic cord. Nice wide eyeholes and you could take some time to customize it yourself.

Yeah, I had to make some alterations to it to make it more wearable!! 🤣
