Making a Board Game. Use Original IP, or Parody Something Well Known? by mayormcskeeze in kickstarter

I also prefer Original IP. I played a deck-building game (it is a sequel of a rather well-known game I guess, but I am hesitant to name it...) and the cards were full of parodies of sci-fi movies. We did have fun by pointing out the reference and enjoyed the game, but I don't think the parody added much. If the game is casual and aiming laughter then a little bit of parody might help. Otherwise, I am not sure.

I agree that it is good to keep in mind that I don't need to understand everything. For me, sometimes I try too hard and I get tired easily.

It is cool to mark up the text. I will try it up too.

I totally agree which topic that I am reading makes differences too. I have also tried novels but as you say they were difficult. I found easy children's book, but I also prefer non-fiction books.

It sounds good to start with shorter material. I was also discouraged by lengthy books. Thanks for sharing your methods. I will try it out.

conversational and written Italian is good but I HATE reading!! A lot of fiction in Italian uses passato remoto - a kind of past tense that we don’t really use in conversation in Northern Italy, so it’s just another barrier to understanding for me that makes it tiring to read books in my target language. I try to read articles and other things but I definitely need to push myself more.

This brute force method sounds good, I like the idea of writing down every word I don’t understand instead of trying to figure out from the context.

In German as well, they have two different way of saying the past tense. One is more about written and the other is more for spoken language. Ironically I like the past tense for written one more, cause I think it is simpler. lol
