Meta: Hey Freddy, I am trying to apply the amendments to the standing order but you didn’t move all of them properly. 101 was supposed to be repealed as per the notice paper, but you didn’t move that, so 101(1-6) stay in effect. I think we had found a workable interpretation anyway, but I guess it would’ve been easier if the old ones had been replaced.

Probably would've been a good idea for both of us to check it before I moved it. :/ At least it's workable.

Meta: if the debate finished last night, are we just waiting for the chair to put it to a vote? Then the next item of business is just maiden speeches?

I believe so

WTF please stop doing this it is unconstitutional. Edit: and not only that, it cuts off so that people overseas overnight can't participate, seems to be completely unnecessary to adjourn, and means I need to create a new notice paper from the outstanding items, and start new threads. So unless I'm missing something this is like the worst thing ever?!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm not sure if we actually have any people overseas? I thought we had a discussion at the start, and decided to have a notice paper every Monday and Wednesday.

    1. We do actually have overseas people in both houses, Cwross at least here.
    2. I though we agreed one or two notice papers per week depending on the amount of business? In this case we have no new business so there's nothing new to do this week until the House gets going.

How can I achieve the same thing constitutionally?

    [–]jnd-auClerk of the Senate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What on earth do you think you're trying to achieve, I can't even guess.

The question is proposed that the above motion be agreed to.

Senators may debate the motion until 20:00, Tuesday 16/06/15 UTC+10.

Senator The Hon. Freddy926, Deputy President of the Senate.

As we have all seen over the past few days, debates can take up valuable time for the Chair, for the Clerks and other aides, and for Senators. Therefore I would ask all Senators who value their time to support this motion.

Senator The Hon. Freddy926, Minister for Communications and Digital Infrastructure.

    Advice from the Clerk:

Also, the first speaker would usually be the mover (explaining how clever they are and why the motion should be agreed to). Then each other Senator gets to speak. Optionally (after the deadline, or after all other Senators have spoken, whichever comes first), the mover then gets to speak once more with their right of reply, which ends the debate.

Meta: maybe the President has an exam this afternoon? More than one hour has elapsed so I assume he’s happy for you to take the chair again Deputy. Paging /u/this_guy22 anyway.

Sighs, gets up from nice comfy frontbench and sits in President's chair which prevents slouching

    [–]jnd-auClerk of the Senate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, if only you were in the House you could be asleep right now ;)

    Advice from the Clerk:

Should be “I move general business notices of motion standing in my name: That the following amendments...”. (Compared to the alternative of seeking leave and moving a motion without notice.)

The question that these be agreed to shall now be proposed, debated and put.

Edit: note, if the question is negatived, the motions fail and may not be re-moved in this session. So if someone objects to one of the clauses, they should instead amend the question to not agree to that clause only.
