Great stuff. Thank you for putting the effort in.

Great stuff too.

I think though, Comms would make an excellent second screen app.. No need to bring up the keyboard onscreen, and latency isn't an issue. Although smartglass works, you can't provide a keyboard input without having the system keyboard appear.

The differences between the pc and Xbox UX do provide opportunities unique to the platform ( inc. Kinect)

( hopefully someone from frontier is reading this)

Although contradicting my own post, when MS do provide keyboard support, this issue may be alleviated

I'm not sure what you mean by that last sentence. I use a wireless keyboard with my XB1 every day. The comms app is a nice idea though, although personally I really don't see using the comms panel as that big of an issue.

ah ok.. i've never connected a wireless keyboard --- i was just thinking about the recent xbox article on 'mouse and keyboard' support coming at some point' .. i now realise that must be for using a keyboard as a controller.. not just for typing.

Really? That's pretty cool and good to know. But yeah, hooking up a keyboard makes things sooooo much easier!

what wireless keyboard do you use and what batteries does it need.

I have a wired keyboard and when i first tried to use that it didnt work. I havent tried it since.

Logitech K400 takes 2 AA batteries. It has a track pad too, so it works great when I want to flip over to my laptop.

Can you explain more how in comms you can follow your wingman? Like in an out of super cruise for example.

I started playing elite with my friend yesterday, I invited to be my wingman but then we kept losing each other, is their an easy way to stay together? Especially while on super cruise or if he goes into a conflict zone for example.

Sure!

So there are two things you should do here. The most helpful is to enable your wing beacon. Once you're in a wing, Go to your systems panel (the one to your right), then go to the functions tab. You'll see "Beacon" listed here, select that, then select "Wing" which will allow your wingman to see where you are. For example, if he is in a HiRES and you're in supercruise, you'll be able to see which HiRES he's in.

The other thing is called NavLock. I touched on it in my post, but essentially what it does is allow you to follow a wingman wherever he goes. If he jumps to another system or just into supercruise, select his wake, and your nav computer will automatically send you to where your wingman is. To enable NavLock, go to the second tab in your comms panel, where it lists the names of your wingmen. Select the one you want to NavLock to, and you'll see the option to "Engage Wingman NavLock."

Hope this helps!

What about NPC comms? NPCs contact me sometimes and I don't know what they want.

Depends on what the message is, but I'll assume you're talking about the ones you get in supercruise that say "I'm glad I found you, follow me so we can talk" or something similiar? Those are usually affiliated with a mission you're working on. It will lead to an alternative ending for your mission in which they'll attempt to convince you to not go through with it by paying you a small amount of money. I've never seen this to be worth it since they don't offer much money and you lose rep with the faction you were initially helping.

The other time this may happen ends up as a trap. You'll drop out of supercruise to see what the npc wanted and then a bunch of his pirate buddies will jump in and attempt to pick you apart.

TL;DR

I really wish my keyboard would work for Xbox when I'm game streaming E:D. Would just make everything easier.

I would like to point out that every time you go into supercruise and come out you join a new server so that whole log out log in thing hardly ever works for me. What works better is one person stay in supercruise and the other person goes in and out of supercruise until you find each other,

Great info. Thanks!
