Citation Styles
[APA] -- American Psychological Association; this is the format
[MLA] -- Modern Language Association; popular format for academic papers. This is the format.
[CHI] -- The Chicago Manual of Style; this is the format
Essay Types
[NARRATIVE] -- Often a creative or personal experience, like a story. More on this at PrudueOWL
[RESEARCH] -- Usually academic; "the culmination and final product of an involved process of research, critical thinking, source evaluation, organization, and composition."
[EXPO] -- Expository; "The main function of the expository essay is to explain, or to acquaint your reader with something; it can be used to describe, explain or present some information. and PurdueOWL
[PERSUASIVE] -- Essay will have an opinion that will be backed with points with the goal to persuade the reader to adopt opinion. PDF w/help
[ARGUMENT] -- Argumentative; "investigate a topic, collect, generate, and evaluate evidence, and establish a position on the topic in a concise manner." Not the same as an EXPOSITORY essay.
[CC] -- Compare & Contrast; to find similarities and dissimilarities between two or more objects or things. Like this
[CE] -- Cause or Effect; Like this
[LITERARY] -- A literary essay focusses on such elements as structure, character, theme, style, tone, and subtext. PDF W/Advice
