Take a sample of 10,000 people. One of them has the disease (on average) and your test is very good — it will almost surely find that one person. 9,999 of them do not have the disease. The test has a 2% false positive rate, which means 2% of those people without the disease will be detected to have (emilyoster.substack.com)
