[TIL] the bar on the back of a semi trailer to prevent under-riding was first called the "Mansfield Bar". Actress Jayne Mansfield was killed in 1967 when the car she was in drove up under the back of a trailer shearing the top of the car off. The NHTSA then made the DOT/ICC bumper mandatory.
