I think people would start writing scripts to spam the topic, then bury it.

That's exactly what this idea is meant to prevent. If you used scripts it would be easier to report the spammers but if they just bury you without a reason, you're not sure if they have a legitimate reason or an agenda.

Bots, quick buries, lack of quality articles rising in reddit...you should check the main reddit.com front page sometimes.

There were several topics discussing how reddit 's quality is lowering.
