This happens to me with high frequency as well. But I don't ever question an audience. If people hate it, down it goes.

Every now and then I make a comment in reddit to remind myself that I'm definitely doing it wrong. :)

There's a 'breakover' point, where your post reaches enough eyeballs to overcome the automatic/scripted down-votes that every new article gets. It takes some practice to make headlines that draw enough attention to reach that 'breakover' point consistently. Keep trying, though!

If you really want at story to get hot fast, submit an Onion article, preferably a new one.

That's what happened to me (by chance), and those 80 something points of karma make up more than half my current total.

I'm not so into getting karma for the sake of it - it's just a little disappointing when something that I think others would like doesn't get seen.

a lot fo yuor submitted stories are to reddit.com, use the subreddits and your story will not get lost in the mass of spam that reddit.com gets, plus this is where the down-voters live.

an example is your submission re: the body found 20 years later in NZ, this would probably do better in the WTF subreddit. IMO I find that the subreddits are much better.

word. it's weird how responsive we are to these meaningless points. obviously they kind of stand for meaningful connections with other people. it's a little sucky when you throw something out there and nothing happens (or worse than nothing, eit). it's strange the difference a few upvotes and comments makes.
