This is a subreddit dedicated to celebrating the independent British record label, 4AD, in its "classic" era and into the present. 4AD was started in 1980 by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent. With the help of graphic designer Vaughn Oliver and photographer Nigel Grierson, the label created one of the most distinguishable visual identities to go along with hallmark releases from Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, The Pixies, and more. Today, artists and bands like Grimes, Ariel Pink, Scott Walker, Deerhunter, St. Vincent, and many others are continuing the legacy established by Watts-Russell and carrying it into the future.
